Anyone ever ship from US to Japan?
« on: May 12, 2007, 11:11:56 AM »
Cleaned out some old bike parts and put them on ebay. Listed some steel Harley leg shields from to 40s that someone gave me years ago. Have a bidder from Japan (any one else see the irony?). Box is about 18 inches square and weighs 12 pounds. Any shipping suggestions or preferences?

With out question, go with USPS.  Fed Ex and UPS will rape you on international shipments.

I agree... USPS Global Express all the way. UPS and FedEx will rape you with additional expenses after you ship.

Be sure to fill out one of the Customs Declaration and Dispatch Note, form: CP 72. I have shipped a lot of stuff over the years to Japan and have never had any problems.

Global Priority Mail is no more...

Effective Monday May 14th, the USPS will have consolidate international shipping into 3 main categories.

Express Mail International (3-5 days)
Priority Mail International (up to 4lb only) (6-10 days)
1st Class Mail International (7-14 days)

ALL ARE AIR MAIL - the USPS has dropped surface mail totally.

Customs forms have changed - at least what is required with each package.  The long form 2976A is required on nearly all international boxes now - everything over 1lb and all Priority Mail International...  which means you MUST use a box big enough for the form...

A plus is the existing domestic fold up boxes the post office supplies can now be used for international packages.

Guess you never know what somebody wants on ebay. Sold those old, rusty leg shields for $104 plus $66 to ship to Japan.

I sold an Indian fender that looked like an accordian for $75, and shipping was about that, too.  I figured he was going to hang it on a wall.
Since the dollar is in the toilet, I have a feeling ferners see many things as quite a bargain right now.

The guys on the adventure rider site ship bikes by air all over the world. Funny they never post what it costs.  ;D
One guy shipped his bike by air at least five times....I guess pontoons don't work well on bikes.  ;D

I would love to go on one of those rides but the old 750 probably wouldn't hack it. Just look at the first page of the site.
