CB750K...3? 4?
« on: May 19, 2007, 07:36:07 PM »
I recently purchased a bone stock CB750K registered as a 1974. I havent got it insured yet as I am still working to get it running (its been sitting in the sellers garage for 12years). I checked out the model list on this site and by the information given i think it might actually be a '73. Its a metallic olive colour and the serial #'s are engine 225.. and frame 223..
So I have some questions if someone would be so kind as to enlighten me...
Does this mean I dont have a matching frame/engine or is this how they were manufactured?
Is this actually a '73?  if so, will I be able to change the registration or should I even bother?

What month/year does your VIN tag say? This is the tag on your steering head....right side. If the month is early,it probably is the year it says. If it is a late month,it could be the next year....example.....If it says 3-72,I would say its a 72 but if it says 10-72, I would say its a 73. Don't worry about the engine number matching.......they don't. If you do a search, you will find a list of numbers that will match your frame...and/or engine number and tell you exactly what year your frame or engine is.Happy searching to you!!!!

If the tank and side covers are originals, that color sounds like Bacchus Olive Custom, only available on the K3's

Here's a link that may help.

I my bike is registered as 1973 but has K2 #'s.  The VIN tag says 8/72.  It's been explained to me that back when these were new the DMV would have registered them by date of purchase and not necessarily model year but I don't know that for a fact.  My numbers do seem to support that theory.  Could also be a chance that the DMV made an error but I refuse to believe that any state run office could screw up a number, especially here in California (much sarcasm with that statement).

I've also wondered if the K designations crossed over model years.  Could you buy a 72 and a 73 K2?

According to the VIN#, you have a K3. However, as some have said, if it was sold in the following year, some states at the time didn't always title by the model year. For example, I have a CB360T that's titled as a '74, but the CB360 wasn't offered in the "T" variant until 1975. The date on it is from late '74, so it was likely sold in 1974, even though it was officially a 1975 model.
