Has anyone here ever bought a chain from JCWhitney?

Browsing JC Whitney, I see their prices for motorcycle chains are extremely reasonably priced. Does anyone here have any experience with their chains?

Seriously, don't get a chain from them. A buddy of mine stacked hardcore after putting on a chain from them. it had almost two hundred miles on it and he kept the tension perfect. It snapped on him passing a car on a two lane highway lashing his left leg like a whip, and he ended up in a ditch. Those chains don't have the tensile strength needed for strong riding. Shop around a bit and get the best tensile chain you can afford.

Peace and Long Rides,

If I were you Id invest the extra $$s and get a decent RK or Tsubaki chain (o-ring) - they really are worth the money - low maintenance and hassle free and you know they wont break on you at speed. I now only these chains (have one of each  on my 2 bikes). I got an RK heavy duty chain for $59 and it really is pretty good. Im happy with it so far. I also have a Tsubaki Sigma o-ring which is more $$s but again worth every penny.

cheers
Andy

!!!!!WARNING:   DO NOT PUT AN X-RING OR O-RING CHAIN ON A CB500 OR CB550!!!!!

Many of the 750 guys don't realize that using an o-ring chain on a 500 or a 550 will eat through the engine case right behind the front sprocket.  When you first install it everything seems fine, but there is some sideways flex that causes it to rub the case while riding.  There's a big rubber seal back there that will be ruined, and the only way to replace it is to split the cases.

I caught mine in time, but others here have not been so lucky.  Do a search to hear some horror stories.

I can't speak to the quality of JCWhitney chains, at all, but they do sell off-brands.  I'd rather go with a known-good brand from someplace like MAW http://www.accwhse.com.

I think a chain is one of the few items not to skimp or compromise on, except in an emergency (like when your chain flies off at 90+ mph and you have to buy one now to get going again...ask how I know).

There's lots of parts we can save on; don't do it with items that your safety depends on.

I wouldn't buy a chain from them. They are like the Harbor Freight of parts. Get a name brand chain...pay a bit more but be safe.....Beware of using an O/X ring chain unless its a 77-78.......You might just set yourself up to opening your crankcase up in a way that you don't wanna !!!!!
