Side gapped, splitfire, NGK or other plugs?
« on: May 20, 2007, 12:46:23 PM »
I have been toying with improving(?) my spark plugs by side gapping them.

But the ease of splitfires(do they have some that fit the CB's?) being just drop in looks nice.

just wondering what you all use.

I use the ND (NipponDenso, or now just Denso) U-groove ground electrode plugs.

Here's an interesting read on them: http://www.motorcycleproject.com/motorcycle/text/u-gap.html

Whatever is stock for the bike. As with filters, oil etc, etc, etc I just use what the manufacturer recommends.

I was using the Denso U-groves back in the '80's.  About a year ago when I went to replace them, I could not find any so went back to NGK.

edit: Interesting read on U-grove and Split fire.  I thought that the grove (or split) was simply to allow the spark to sread better, as they are advertised.  I forgot that the plugs were in series and that one fired backwards.  Alwasy learning something new every day. :)

NGK iridiums for 1978 CB550K...purchased thru EBAY. Set of 8 for 14.95, plus S/H. It was such a great deal I could not pass it up. DrMark
