What triple trees will fit my 750K4?
« on: May 21, 2007, 10:08:01 AM »
Well it turns out the fork tubes weren't the only things bent in the crash >:( Looks like I'm in the market for a new set of triple clamps.  What other years/models will fit my '74 750? I've seen a few off of 77-78 750K's out there...Would one of these work?
Thanks for any input...

They should all bolt up, but buy a set if you can - I ended up with a later (I think 77-78) lower triple with my '71 upper and they do not bolt up - the offset of the forks is different.

I will have a set of 77-78 (I think thats what they are) triples for sale very shortly... as soon as I get the early replacement in (won it on ebay over the weekend) and swap the bearings over.

When you say the offset was different do you mean the fork angle compared to the head tube?

I dont know much about what works for the different years, but I can tell you that the 1976 K6 bikes uses a smaller (7mm) bolt to tighten the upper part around the fork tubes, while the earlier years appears to use an 8mm bolt.

I'm not sure if it was fork angle, or the spacing was different - but with the later lower, and the '71 upper they were off by about 1/2" front to rear when I put the forks through the lowers.  Let me know if you need them (i'll be selling it as a set), otherwise they'll go on ebay.

I did a quick search and it looks like the later trees are have the tubes set back closer to the steering head reducing trail for quicker steering. Otherwise it looks as though they should bolt right up so yes I'm interested when you are ready to get rid of them. Drop me an email and let me know how much...
Thanks
