Installing Comstar's onto my 76 CB750F
« on: May 21, 2007, 07:10:20 AM »
OK, I am in the process of putting my 76 CB750F back together after tearing it down to the frame, repainting everything /polishing etc.

I acquired a 78F parts bike, mostly complete. I mainly wanted the comstar rims and front braking setup, and for the price, I couldn't pass it up.

The front rim was no problem.
My problem is with the rear. I swapped on my sprocket since they use different chains, replaced bearings and went to install it.
All of the spacers on both bikes appear to be the same sizes. The rear brake caliper mounts also appear to be identical size. But I cannot for the life of me fit it between the swingarm without prying/beating it in place, which can't be right.

Is the 78F swingarm wider? Will I need to use that swingarm instead?
I am going to use my 76 rear brake since my parts bike didn't have the rear caliper, only the mount for it.

Or is there something I am overlooking and it will fit into the 76 swingarm?

Thanks,
-Chris

I really don't know much about the bike in question, but have you measured both swingarms?  If one is bigger you might be able to swap swingarms to solve the problem.  Just my thoughts..................Chris

I haven't measured the 2 yet. I have the bikes in 2 different places at the moment.
I was just curious if anyone had done this before and had already gone through this.

The original swingarm is already sandblasted/repainted and installed, so I wanted to find out before having to do the same with the 78 swingarm.

After looking at some pictures online, it appears as though I can just take the cush drive side of my spoke rim and install it on my comstar rim. The comstar cush side is about an inch longer (which is about the amount of space I am having issues with)
This also appears as though it would make sure that my rear sprocket would stay right where it needs to.

Hopefully I have answered myself ;)

Using my original cush drive side of my wire rims did the trick. Fits perfect now!
