jardine headers/muffler
« on: May 03, 2007, 09:04:02 AM »
I'm thinking about bidding on these headers on ebay.  Thoughts?  I'm a noob.

They're for a 76 CB750 K6

I looked on ebay for them but couldn't find 'em.  Do you have the link?

I'd bid, look like a decent set.
as to price, I wouldn't have any idea as to what would be a good price.

I think $200 - $300 would be a good guess if they are in as good of condition as they look to be in the photo.  NOS or new or used?

These exhausts seem to be might pricey lately on ebay (for exhausts in nice condition that is)

Looks good but $83.99 to ship to me from Tx  :o  :o  ::)  ::)  Come on now........I shipped the Mac 4-1 to Ian in Ky for a little less than a Jackson....insured and a confirmation # included.

But if the price doesn't take a climb soon it will still be worthwhile.
less than $150 for a nice set of headers?

If they were local, and I needed them, and they were in as good a shape as they look,  I'd pay $150 and carry them out the door myself.

This line from the description is interesting:

"These headers were on a 1973cb 750 that I am parting out , but they also bolted up to my 1981cb 750 custom."

I know that subject was getting tossed around a week or two ago here on the forum...is it in fact true? Will later 750 DOHC headers fit the SOHC 750s?

At one time I had both a sohc and dohc sitting in the garage, and since the dohc had a real nice looking exhaust I thought about swapping them over, but that's as far as I got, looking at it that is!

it looked as though the ports were spaced a bit differently, but with a little carefull spreading they'd work out. as far as actual size, I'm not sure.

not realy a dohc fan, so traded it off for another sohc, but it got stolen after I took it home and snagged the rear tire off it. Figure someone must have realy wanted it to steel it without a tire.

My understanding is that the DOHC motors are taller. So while the spacing could be made to work the header would be much closer to the ground when mounted to an SOHC.

I am really new to the 750, but, my 72 had a busted, rusted Mac on it when I got it that was the flange type mount similar to that Jardine. And I know the 72 was originally spigot type exhaust mount. Looks to me like you just have to pull the spigots off.

I wouldn't bid on them.  His feedback is bad for such a small amount of transactions.

Thanks for the replies.  I guess I'll go ahead and bid on them-not too worried about the feedback as they're from sellers.  Hopefully someone here won't get any bright ideas.. ;)

Another noob question: what are spigots?  The mounting flanges on the headers?  My 76K6 has the star-shaped mounts.

your 76 should have ears on the pipes that use 2 nuts to mount to each port, the early bikes,up to 74,i believe, used a spigot mount which is round and the pipe fit over it and used a clamp like an automotive exhaust uses.

Welllp...

Just bought me a set of headers that don't have any dents for $50!!

Since I live in Houston, I could go pick them up, but I'd rather just take the lazy route and have them shipped to me for $30.

$80 ain't bad, eh?  I'll probably sand them down and paint 'em flat black with (automotive) header paint, even though I know it won't last.  Is ebay the best place to get exhaust gaskets?

Wellp,

Looks like the guy might be trying to scam me.  He doesn't have flawless feedback, so I'm mildly concerned.  Messaged him several times, but no response.   :(
