Anyone use one of these?
« on: May 26, 2007, 01:59:52 PM »
I asked about this type baffle before but I got no response. Here it is again. I bought one and will be installing it on the header pipes of my 4-1 on the cb500.

Has anyone here used one? If so, what are your impressions? I don't really expect it to reduce volume that much, but if it gets past the inspection, I am pleased.

I remember Greg, didn't reply as I have never used this type of baffle.
It should take the sharpness off the exhaust note but by how much, I don't know.
On some old Brit bikes, straight pipes worked well as part of performance tuning but on allmost all Hondas they are a no no.
If you only want the straight pipes for the look and sound and are not worried by the fact that you may be a few bhp down because of them, go for it.
You might also want to consider header wrap. Allthough road bikes do not need this, a lot of people think it looks cool and this also helps stop the pipe resonating as much, resulting in a quieter exhaust note.

I HAVE. had them on an xs 650 with straight pipes. If you like loud and a lot of popping then they are for you. Dont expect to pass inspections with them. As far as my opinion, I used them for about 2 minutes, then removed and sold.

Well, at least I only paid $4 for it.  (Thank God I have a 4-1 and only bought one!)

Inspections???????
.......I scoff at such things.  I took a BARE frame into the insurance place on Island last week and got it registered :o

Took the 185 in as well without front signals, registered it and  insured it.

Gods Country I tell ya ;D

I think they would have sold me insurance and given me plates for the chrome frame while I was there if I had asked ;D

In NC, anything more than 30 years old no longer needs to be inspected.  It makes no sense at all.

no inspections here either, BUT if you get pulled over by a gung ho enforcer of the law they may say something.

I used them in "TT pipes" years ago in an SL350.  They don't do much other than plug up the pipe a little.  Still plenty noisy.
