I will be on the isle from 5 to 9 june. The last day, the friday 8, there will be a "parade of champions" with many of the TT winners -that are alive-. Man, this is going to be one of a kind of a experience!!!  The most exciting part of it is that I've been invited over a friend's house, so I hope he, as a local, will be able to show me some things of the isle that "regular tourists" never see.

The TT always looks really good and I would like to know more about it.

A few years ago an ex-TT racer and the minister for tourism for the Isle of Mann nearly bought my 350F!!

In the end I decided not to sell, but if it were to go anywhere that would have been a good historic motorcycling place for it to go!

The thing that's throwing me is that "Big Daddy" Don Garlits participated in it. The "Swamp Rat" himself! :) Drag Racing and an attempt at running for the House of Representatives for Florida is all I have come up with , so far. ??? Sam is a sly one alright! ::)

Yup, for two years now.  Before then, I never really gave two wheels much thought since dirt bikes back in High School.  I've never followed racing much, 2 or 4 wheels.  Now that I'm riding, I've become obsessed ~ probably a touch obsessive-compulsive if I had to guess.  Thanks for the article Bob, now I know the IOM is Isle of Mann (had to google the location), and it's all about racing, but I still don't know what the "TT" stands for (time trials?).  Such a noob I am.

I am with you on that one. Since I started riding a few years ago, I couldn't care less about motorcycles or racing, but now I'm kind of obsessed.

T.T. stands for "Tourist Trophy". It started as some british gentlement that competed in an austrian race with lots of stupid restrictions, decided to organize a race in their homeground. But the british law forbid races on public roads. The Isle Of Man has its own government and they saw an opportunity to attract visitors and tourists. The race course has changed during the years, as has the categories changed depending on the industry. During many years the race accounted in the World Championship, but as the number of casualties rise the FIM decided not to count the TT in the World Championship, trying to discourage top champions. On the contrary, they continued going to the isle because a victory on it gave more glory than a championship.

hi looneymoon do you have his name, I am intrigued.

His name is David Cretney - he's now the minister for trade and industry for the IOM, In the end I think he probably went for a 350 with the original exhausts on - at the time mine still had the 4-2 system.

Chris, That's the only thing I could think of, where Garlits is concerned. Are there any other kind besides Drag Racing and "Straight Line racing" like at the Bonneville Salt Flats? They Have been going for speed records for some time, haven't they? Well, maybe Sam will take us off of the hook before long and tell us just what it is. ;D ::)

It's racing over a 37.73 mile road course, speeds of 200mph are reached on narrow winding country roads. The lap record is close to 130mph.
