They were built in Hondas RSC department around the same time as they were making the CR750s.

Glad you like my bike! Actually not all were built by the RSC. The bike was initially shown in 1968 at the Tokyo Motor show. Honda produced a kit of 91 parts called the "CB350 Sports Kit". Honda intended the kit to turn a CB350 into a clubman capable pavement racer. It did the job, but at about the same time Yamaha was introducing its TD series racers which ultimately dominated the class. Early machines as initially offered in 1969, like mine used the standard street 5 speed tranny. Later Honda offered a close ratio 5 speed and finally a 6 speed. The high compression 2 ring pistons upped the displacement to 346cc. The complete engine was good for 45 BHP at 11,500 RPM. With a vehicle weight of around 251 lbs, the bike in good tune was good for a top end of 135 MPH.

Nice bike Ellis, not very often you see them in stock trim, nice.

Some parts of you web site I couldn't get to work, not sure if it was at my end or what.

Couldn't get the CR93 to come up, will try again later.

Hi Sam,
thanks for the complements. The bike in the pictures is the result of a 10 year, world-wide hunt for parts. There is a recording of the CR93 along with the picture. That might be what is causing your ISP to block it. I've had other folks somment on that.

Well, I sure blew THAT Quiz, huh?  ??? ::)  I posted the link so the info could be checked out and didn't EVEN think about it having the model there for all to see. ::) Oh well, at least the bike got some eyeballs laid upon it. ;)

Ellis, I'm not sure how you got involved but, it's been cool to have someone with a bike like that, here to comment on it. 8)  I just happened to find it by accident and am a bit embarrassed to say that I didn't know that it existed. So, it's been a learning experience for me, in more ways than one. ;D ::) That is really one mighty fine bike! Thanks for coming on-line here and I, for one, hope you'll feel free to come back often. ;)

Sam, Good night, see you later! ;)

What's the deal with the tube which starts at the dip stick & goes up to the tail section?

Also is that how the seat/tank sat?  It just doesnt look right.

Seems like I seen one of these in a not to recent cycle world or motorcyclist..as they were covering the a similar one/size that was an inline six that born the CBX...seems like they only weighed a 150 lbs...all ultra lightweight

Looks waaay cool!

The tube that starts where the dip stick used to go is an engine breather. At sustained high RPM
the tiny little breather at the top of the engine just wasn't enough. Yep that's how Honda and
the RSC intended it to be.

I notice the gear shift lever is not connected via linkage, rather it is bolted straight on to the shaft.  Am I correct in assuming the shift pattern is up for 1st and down through the gears as a result?

You got it. ;) I did my 66' CB72 that way and it reversed the shift pattern as a result. Back then, the Jap bike hadn't been over here long and a lot of folks were still used to the "1 up & 3 down shifting" and most shifters were on the right side of the bike.

To this day, most road racers use a reverse shift pattern.

I actually prefer the "reverse pattern" shifting myself. I started out on that type though. ;D ;) ::)

Hey, nice to hear that there's another CL77 out there that's gonna get some attention. I didn't notice your signature til now. I also have a CL but, mine is a CL72 250. I've also got a 63' CB77 with a CA motor (that is on it's way to becoming a CB motor) and a 67' CL77 rolling frame (I've got a motor deal that's gonna give me a CB77 motor for that one also. These are most likely gonna be long term projects also. Do you know about 305.com ? Like to hear (and see) more on your project ideas.

Thanks for the web page url, Bill.  Wish I could post you pics, but right now my poor CL77 is in boxes in a storage unit.  Long story short, I paid 25 bucks for it with a locked up engine, took it apart to see what the deal was and had to shelve the whole mess due to finances.  In terms of ideas/goals.... 35 horsepower, 250 lbs?  I figure the factory kick-only motor would save weight (smaller battery, no starter).  :)

If I didn't know better, yours sound a lot like mine. I paid a little more for each but, I've got a 63' CB77 (w/a CA77 motor, that I've trying to get the parts to change), a 62' CL72 (bad shape, all there, motor locked but w/a title) and a 67' CL77 rolling frame w/rear fender. Got about $300 in those (over time). My goals: the CB77 not restored but, built slightly custom look with slightly modified motor, 62' CL72 would like to restored it but I don't see me being able to do so (don't know what I'll do with it) The 67' CL Rolling frame fixed up in a kind of a "Cafe Style." Ah, but money puts a damper on things like that, if you don't have much and I don't. Take care and let me know how things are going and I'll do the same. ;) 8)
