Regarding that large fang on center stand....
« on: February 09, 2007, 06:45:07 PM »
For those who like their center stand and have regressed to the 4-1 exhaust - what have you done about that long peg hanging out the side? Did you cut a few inches off?

In the case of the CB750, I've seen most folks just get a small length of aluminum bar stock and drill a hole in one end to attach it behind the left-hand footpeg using the footpeg bolt. This keeps it pushed down just enough so the chain doesn't grind on it. I think the mounting might be a little different for the 500...

I was thinking more along the lines that the dang thing sticks out so far (to clear what used t/b space occupied by mufflers) that its a hazard. I've already banged my shins on the thing just pushing bike aroundin my work space.

I can think of three things...Cut it back so it doesn't stick out so far...Try a center stand from an F model...Or wear shin guards. :D

Depending on the project, I pitch the stand and cut the brackets off. Gotta weigh ten pounds and you only really need it if you are doing a repair on the side of the road.

Take it off.  Put it on the scrap pile to China and let them turn it into a cheap knock off race stand.   That's what I did.  :)

Take it off and stash it somewhere in the garage for the future.
Centerstands were frequently ditched during the seventies to shed weight and are now getting harder to come by every minute.

On my bike I removed the brackets from the frame, but that´s only because I never will go back to stock again.

Cheers
