How did you go about trying to upload the new one? You current pic says you uploaded it from your PC, so I am assuming your new one is being hosted at Photobucket? You should just be able to select the top radio button (I Have My Own Picture) then just fill in the entire URL to your pic on photobucket. Sorry if you already know this, but if you right click your picture on Photobucket, the properties will reveal the URL. Just copy that to the profile page.

Neil,

Sorry for changing your avatar, but I wanted to try and see what you might be encountering. I right clicked on one of the photos you posted in the thread, copied the URL from properties, went to your profile clicked the top button and pasted the URL in the text box... after deleting the HTTP that was already there since the copied URL already had that in it. It accepted the new photo as your avatar.

I'm looking into it.  Probably a space issue or something like that...

I tried to upload a photo of my Triumph as Medic09 is looking at one (blue is slower though...)

I gave up in the end and hosted externally.

Maybe that's the answer.

I've been trying to add a new album and some grave yard pics to the gallery, but I get an error.  May or may not be related...

It would definitely save a lot of server space if you were to limit forum hosting of pictures to avatars only.  There's no shortage of free picture hosting websites out there to make use of.  I've been using Photobucket exclusively for the past few months, and it's actually easier to use than re-sizing a picture to get it under the 80kb limit.  We could just put up a FAQ post with links to the free hosting websites for folks who ask how to post pictures.

I changed ISP's recently and have not yet set up my own space, but most providers allow you so much space for your own use on their servers. I have nothing against the likes of Photobucket, but your ISP might be a more permanent solution and doesn't require you to identify yourself to yet another entity on the Web.

The problem of hosting pictures somewhere else is that they can take the space down at their own convenience, so you can end up finding that your long-worked post with pictures that you wrote a week ago has no pictures today. I think the forum should make room for pictures as it makes room for text, they go together in most of the cases.

I have no problem linking pictures to external sites when the situation calls for it, but for posting your own pictures it is easier to link them directly into your post than hosting somewhere else.

Obviously, this is just my 2 cents.
