front sproket position and fit? <--- New question

I have the famous 1978 CB750K8. When I got it the front sproket was off. On one of the sides it is raised a bit. Does that raised side got twards or away from the case?

Don,

All the sprockets I have seen dont have a raised side, so you may have an aftermarket sprocket.
If you put it with the raised side away from the engine the chain will be a bit out of line.
Have the flat side face you then it should be the same alignment as the stock sprocket.

This is from a K8/F3 manual, it doen't show any raised portion.

Is the sproket suppose to be tight against the shaft it goes on after you tighten the bolt and washer or will it move a little bit?

I bought a new bolt from honda but they didnt sell the washer(s) any more. Is the washer(s) just a plain flat washer or is it special in some way. All i got with my bike was the sprocket so i have notheing to go an.

How many washers are there?

I bought a SS washer that fits the bolt but when i tighten it down the sproket moves a little bit. Not front to back like the direction of the chain but side to side...just a little.

So in other words it is held in place but not tight.

Uh, just a thought, but maybe the raised part of the sprocket replaces the washer.  Is the sprocket OEM?

I have no Idea if it is OEM or not.

The bolt honda sold me is small and in no way could hold the sprocket without a waher of some osrt.

My K7 has the same setup.
Flat side of sprocket to engine.
Normal flat washer under the bolt. Use a bit of "Locktite" on the bolt.
The sprocket will move from side to side. This is adapted from trailbikes & allows the sprocket to find it's own place on the shaft depending on loading on the chain e.g. hard acceleration, slight mis-alignment of the rear wheel etc.
The setup looks flimsy but I've never heard of one coming off.
