Best battery
« on: May 31, 2007, 01:33:02 PM »
Ok, since I need a battery for the duck, I figure I'd buy a new one for the 750F and
then use the old one on the duck for testing purposes.

I know this comes up from time to time but I want a real good battery so what
is the consensus?

I bought a Big Crank from Battery Mart, www.batterymart.com, and have been real happy with it.

Many of us have been moving to the AGM batteries. You can get one for about 50-60 on batteries plus.com and the store will usually match it unless they are jackoffs.

I've always gone with Yuasa, but I may try an AGM battery one of these days if/when the Yuasas die.

Thanks Gents, sounds like either would be good now to see if I can find one local.
I want to try and fire this thing up before I strip it down!

I prefer the Yuasa brand, but, only in the models that have the life extender EDTA added to them.  (I think they call it Sulfate -Stop) This helps prevent/reverse sulfation when the battery is not charged for some time.

I've used Interstate in my cars for a long time, so an Interstate went into my bike.  When it dies, I'll pick up an AGM, though.

Craig, thats the way the AGM batteries are too. The Crank amps whip the snot out of regular lead/acids. When I go to start my bike right now, It does not even make a full revolution before it fires up with considerable authority! I mean, push button and about .5 seconds later it is off. And this is on the first start of the day, NOT when already warm!

Back when the one battery to have for your car was a Diehard, I thought I'd try one for my 550.  It lasted 8 months.  I don't compare stuff for cars and bikes anymore.  I have since always had good luck with Yuasa.  I'd like to think that I coined a new phrase "You bet Yuasa".  AGM is a good battery also.  The extra cca could come in handy.  Either way, the battery tender is KEY to long life if parked over long periods.

I currently have a Gel battery on my Hellcat and the Yuasa batteries in my Hondas and wife's Sportster.  The last Gel battery I had in the Hellcat last me almost 5 years, the Yuasa batteries tend to last around two seasons (give or take a few months).  Mind you each one gets hooked up to the battery tender and fully charged up once a month.  IMHO I like the Gel cell batteries better than the Yuasa, just my 2 cents.  When I get my cafe up and running it will be sporting a small Gel battery of some sorts....

I used a wally battery too. They certainly know how to die quickly! Even when new, they have no where near the power of the AGMs.

Sounds like everyone is happy with what they have, adding to the confusion,  I have 4 years so far with no problems on a Auto Zone, absolutely no maintenance and no vent, around $60 if I recall correctly. I ride year round, but use a maintainer in winter
