Topic: Gas tank rust - opinions & testimonials needed

Argh...  I'll see if I can find something at the hardware store to use instead of the Kreem stuff - probably just phosphoric acid anyways.

What can I do to keep it from rusting striaght away?  Fill it with gas?

grab a bottle two stroke oil and coat inside tank. that will keep it till add gas.

Thats weird, I just had that idea a few minutes ago, and checked the thread now.

I'll probably mix it with some gas and slosh it around and should be good to go.

Here is a link that I found.  It is an expensive option, but it might work.  My results with Kreem has been dismal, so I have considered this option:

Just a note:
On the '77. '78 750 tanks, the filler hole that sits at the bottom of the depression under the locking lid becomes the filler hole on top of a steep hill inside your tank when you turn it upside down to shake the drywall nails out.
Those 5 gallon tanks are a lot heavier than they look!
At least I got a pretty good upper-body workout as a result of my short-sightedness 
Oh yeah...
The chain can get inextricably tangled around the drain tube which runs right through the tank.
...think I'll try "The Works" bowl cleaner somebody recommended.

Home Depot had some phosphoric acid/metal etch stuff that I used to clean out the tank the 2nd time - I'm pretty sure it worked alot better than the 'Kreem', and filled with 3 gallons of gas mixed with some 2-cycle oil, and all is well for now.
