Need old fart stories
« on: June 27, 2005, 05:57:06 PM »
City Bike is an excellent newspaper based in San Francisco. ( www.citybike.com  ) They are looking for stories/biographies from riders over 60; history, rides, people you've known, bikes you've owned. what you ride now, etc.  The more pictures the better- esp old ones. Hope I read of some of you in there (I subscribe).

Hi Uncle Ernie, do I qualify? I'm 77 this year and ride a CB400f. I started racing in 1956 and retired in 1987 having just won the Midland 250cc single cylinder championship on the watercooled Rotax pictured in my profile (on the left). I have attached a pictire taken at Mallory Park in the UK in 1959. Number 41 is Phil Read and I am number 29 in the center. ( I finished 7th in that race on a converted Triumph Tiger 70 Road bike) In my day I rode against Mike Hailwood, Bob McIntyre, Alistair King, Tom Phillis, Jim Redman and a lot of other names far more famous than I could ever be. I have lots of interesting pictures but obviously cannot attach them here. very best wishes from England,  John Baker.

If you don't qualify, I don't know who would. Nice job, keep riding! I'd like to see some of your other photos.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Couldn't agree more.
Let's see some of those old photos in the gallery John. We could have an "I raced against Hailwood and Read" section...

Now that's a racing background!!!! I would like to hear more about that, oldbiker.

(The only bad thing of those racing pictures is that it is difficult to prove who are you with the helmet on...  ;D )

Well unless you did that while riding, I doubt they would print it. I think it is funny personally. :D

Great pictures, Oldbiker.  You have truly done things others can only wish they had done.  Myself included.
