I bought one like it a few years ago. First thing I thought when I got it was how much did I pay for just two magazine pages.


Later, when I bought several magazines of the era, I got the same ad in some of them. Any motorcycle magazine from 1970 will probably have the same ad. You can probably buy single magazines and for less price you will get cool ads of Harley Davidson, Suzuki, Yamaha, Norton -with the hot chick- or even Hodaka.

I'm with Raul, magazines are the way to go for interesting stuff and vintage advertisements.

Right down the the 1969 magazine with a Vincent Black shadow for sale for $2000 o.n.o.   I think that bike will be worth the best part of $200,000 now. So they are a slice of history.

Would you believe a similiar CB750 to the one used in that 1969 ad (a pre-production prototype) is still around after being unearthed here in the Northeast?

That's a new picture isn't it Andy?   I see the carbs have been cleaned up. Are you going to put up a good detailed post on this restoration soon?

Well, its in the same state of limbo as when it was found 13 months ago. The motor needs a complete overhaul and its chock full of one-off components, so it might be beyond our modest skills to do it correct. That means out-sourcing; handing it over to somebody else for what may take a looong time needs careful consideration. I also know its just as important what you DON'T do as to what you DO on something unique (and valuable) like this!
As its next step in this resto, I'd like to take it all-apart, photograph and document the entire process in my studio, then button it back together as a complete but non-running motorcycle. The inevitable missing bits can be hopefully sourced and figured out beforehand. Then we'll take it from there.

I hope you have a good insurance agent that understands the value of these bikes. That one is truly a rare find.

Surely Honda must be as interested in this bike as we are. Do they know it exists?

If you approached the company with a request for assistance their response will be somewhere between zero and everything they can do to help. Surely there is some old guy at a desk somewhere in the company whos job is archives and company history etc.

What if they totally restored the bike for you in exchange for you displaying it at shows and dealerships and they get the use of the bike for promotions and advertising etc?  A joint ownership kind of thing but the bike remains your property?

That's where I would be starting before I let just any old mechanic loose on it. Like you said, you have to minimise damage and the opportunity to get it wrong is pretty big.

Second option is to let me make you an offer and we take it from there...
