I kindly pointed out to this eBay seller that his tank was indeed not for a 500 or 550, but in fact looked like a 69-76 CB750 tank.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4559662448

He responded:

"The CB500/CB550 has the fuel valve on the left side. This is on the left side. The CB750 69-76 SOHC has the fuel valve on the Right Side.I own a 69 CB750 Sandcast and 74 CB750.I have been collicting CB750s for over 30 years. This is not a CB750 fuel tank. Please do you research if your looking for a CB500/CB550 tank."

I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest with the guy, but rather trying to keep an uninformed buyer from being dissapointed, and perhaps making it easier for this guy to sell his tank.

Can someone tell me what years the 750 had the petcock on the left or right side?  I myself have a 750 tank of this style with the petcock on the right.  Were any made in this style with the petcock on the left?

Let it go man.  you can't make some people see the light.

I tried telling some yahoo that he didn't have a kawasaki Z1 but in fact he had a 76 KZ900.
Also I tried telling a guy that he had a really nice K1 450 but it was not a black bomber.

Niether of them gave a poop what I had to say.  I have since just learned that I was waisting my time.

Too bad that isn't a wrinkle tank.  Snaging it for cheap and turning it over for proffit would be nice.

Yep, I've never had any luck correcting people on their listings.  He'll just have to learn his lesson the hard way when the buyer wants his money back because it doesn't fit.

Some people are pissants, but most of the time people seem glad to learn something- mostly because they guard their feedback rep. A fairly common mistake is MC toys on ebay that are listed as Harleys. I guess Harley has become generic for Motorcycle the way Coke had become generic for any cola drink.

To clarify things, the fuel tap on the CB750 was moved to the left beginning with the K5 model.  I just looked at the bottoms of both my K5 and my CB550K and he definately has a K5 or K6 tank listed.  I also sent him a message about his listing and offered to snap some pics of my tanks to send to him if he has any doubts.  We shall see what his response is.   ;)

Yep. K5 It is. Here's the proof straight from Honda:

PS- Hey, TinTin... I miss your old "Yamaha Go Sideways" avatar. I found it amusing. Where did you find that?

Tintin, I personally contacted Pierre Omidyar and he will insist that canusa11 relist the item or be banished to Yahoo! Auctions.

You have to be very carefull with these auctions. Sometimes these people just do not know what they are selling but I think many deliberatly mislead just to try and sel lthe part and hope the buyer does not gripe.
For instance, look at how oftern "sandcast" is used for a part the did not even COME from a honda.

Thanks for all the info on the tanks.

BTW my old Yamaha avatar is a scan I made of a badge I actually own.  Been meaning to add it to my shop apron.

I almost splurged on this (eBay) but it would have cost me $10.  To much.
