Hate to ask this but...
« on: June 05, 2007, 05:46:57 AM »
...whats my bike worth?  ::)

I know, real general question. The only reason I'm even THINKING about this is because a cherry came up for sale locally and I am trying to see if I can sell parts of the collection. I know there are some of you who know the feeling...

My 1973 CB350F. It's one of the dark green sparkle ones. About 10k on the odometer and let me tell you, she is sweet. (almost) Everything is original. The 4into4's are nos from about 4 years back. I upgraded to some Fiaam hi/lo's but still have the stock horn with stock wires and plugs still attatched. Seat has some slight rippage from riding but can be repaired. Tires are mediocre with a spot of dry-rot. Besides that, nothing much is wrong. Runs like a champ. Starts right up every time. Even the clock faces are in excellent condition. Chrome is %98 and comes with the Honda matching crashbar.

I can get pictures for you all, but I was thinking about more of a general blue book value? Out of the three sohc's I have, not one was gotten without some sort of a deal - so I really have no idea. Any help is greatly appreciated :).

Much obliged;
III

Absolutely can't blame you on that one.  Just make sure the 350 gets to a good home :)

Can't speak for down there....but there is a similar condition 400/4 for sale in Vancouver as we speak with an asking price of $3200.

It all boils down to how much someone wants to pay; in this case everything is there and the exhaust (a big ticket item) is A1. Ask big bucks, but keep a 'lowest acceptable price' in the back of your head.

Hmmm...

Getting closer. The 400's are rare but I've been told the 350's are even harder to find; it's just that people want the 400's in a worse way. I think what I'm looking for is final prices. I'm into alternative/vintage paintball so I've had some experience selling items as per market value - even if the blue book says different. I think not only how much someone want to pay, but how badly the seller wants to sell (or needs the money). Folks can ask all they want but whats someone actually going to spend? I have a pretty good feeling about "2500" but want to hear some real feedback.

I have already contacted the seller of the 305 and he is not looking for trades. Main reason he's selling is spacial reasons!

Ugg...

If you're pressed for time because you want to buy the 305, I think $2500 is too much.  There may be someone out there who will pay that much for it, but the problem is finding that person.

Thats what I'm afraid of...

EDIT:

I know what I'll do; someone buys the 350 and I'll throw in my '63 stepthrough sans title in for free  ;D. Does that sound like adeal yet?

As everyone has said, "its worth what someone will pay for it." Here is a link from NADA for the CB350F. These may be dealer prices for trade in purposes but its a start.
http://www.nadaguides.com/Values/ValueReport.asp?UserID=540B25D60638B&DID=39238&Type=MC&GCode=AM&wPg=1107&wSec=3&Letter=H&Com=0017&Year=1973&Model=1500003232
Parted out it would be worth much more, but we who own one know its undervalued and wouldn't do that.

Double those NADA prices is a lot closer to reality.  I have bought 3 and sold 4 motorcycles so far this year.  Does NADA know what I bought and sold for?  No.  Bikes like the CB350F are usually bought and sold by individuals who do NOT report to NADA.  Therefore I have to believe that NADA data is based on a small subset of all CB350F transactions.  As has already been said, your bike is worth whatever an able buyer is willing to pay.  Sometimes that is low.  Sometimes it is high.  If your pipes are still unscratched, un-dented, and un-rusted, I think you would easily get your $2500 on eBay.

A perfect and I mean perfect 72 was just on ebay about a month ago, that got a high bid of $4,000. Its has 2,984 miles. Id say your is worth around $2500 realistically.

Well I have decided that the best thing to do is just try selling it. I have decided on ebay since I will not be dealing with shipping the bike and would rather meet the new owner :P.

Do you think that it would help me or hurt me to sell multiple bikes in the same auction?
- I also have a 1963 stepthrough and a 1977 CB550K, both of which I have been thinking about selling. The Stepthrough is mediocre to good at best but runs well and comes with a box of new parts - it just doesn't have a title.
-The 550 is mostly there but in serious disrepair. The motor was recentley running (like a champ, might I add) in another 550 who's original motor we just rebuilt. Everything pretty much just needs to bolted together and plugged in. It comes with the original seat (unripped) and everything else. It is missing one of the side covers and we don't seem to have a spare set of exhaust for her. 550 does have one of the older brown titles.

Personally it would be fantastic to get that room in the garage back in one fowl swoop. Major bonus would be the buyer handing me $2500 cash  ;D ;D ;D. And yes, I would be willing to get rid of all three bikes for the dream.

P.S. please excuse my double post.

Ok, one last re-post. (again, quite sorry)

I did in fact go through with listing on ebay. I can only hope I will be satisfied! I decided to go with listing three at the same time under asian/parts. I am hoping it will not hurt more than help.

Cheers and thank you very much for all your help thus far;

Dont be "conned" on the price, that exhaust system is worth at least half of your asking price as one of the pipes is just totaly unobtainable now

If I remeber right, you can list in more than one place.  Would probably do you real good to stick that in the CB section also.  If someone doesn't have a bike and is looking for one, he/she isn't going to be searching through parts.  They're going to be looking in the bike section.
Just a thought.

hmmmm....not sure all would agree but I would have steered clear of selling the 3 together...

It would scare me off. Reasoning: first and foremost is shipping and or storage. I don't have room for 3 bikes especially ones that are so varied...it's not like I could use the spare parts or anything. Secondly, it seems more like a salvage or cleanup attempt. I mean it sorta takes away from the value of the really good bike by having the others in there...I also generally question bikes that seem to come from guys who do alot of this sort of thing...unless it is their full time gig. Too many guys claim stuff to be all original but really aren't because their knowledge isn't really there. I am absolutely not saying that this is the case here as you are a member of this forum but other buyers who have no knowledge of you or your background may not know this...

And I agree about listing in the CB section as well...

just my 2 cents...

Well the new item number is 140127019300

I lowered the price pretty drasticly and decided you were right about listing under motorcycles.
