Interesting ideas they have there.  I don't think the pipes are anything special, just a 4 into 2 with a common collector.  But the carb stuff is neat, especially the 5th fuel circuit.  What do suppose they do?

It dose look cool, but its probably nothing more then a novelty item with no real advantage

the 60' mustangs Had this designed, they called it the H-pipe and it increased the torque
but there is  another 3-4 feet of pipes and mufflers after the crossover for the exhaust to travel.

can't imagine having 4 feet of exhaust hanging of the back of the bike! ???

The system has been around for some time. Supposedly it is supposed to be better than any other 4-2 system and better than some 4-1s too.  The "X" area is more than just a novelty. It is supposed to perform like and expansion chamber. It has been talked about before with the general idea it works good but the guy has poor people skills I guess.

Lucky me then, as I own one (for almost a year now)!  I had no problem in dealing with Dr. Campbell, and looking at the product it looks like any other black pipe (you can have it chromed also) I have installed on a bike (Muzzy, D&D or Yosh).  When I get this bike back together will see how it works with the cam, 836 kit and digital ign..  To be honest I got it to clean up the sides of the bike and because of the performance gains that are claimed.  I am going to wrap the pipes so that will help with the finish.  I figure if the technology is good enough to Nascar, then it should be good enough for my 34 year old bike, HA!

bgfootball, how is the fit on your bike? I test fit mine on the '78 750 and the collector hangs very low in the rear. I plan on fabbing some way to hang it from the centerstand mounts and possibly will have to bend the headers a bit in order to gain ground clearance(even though they are tucked under the engine, the exhaust pipes touch ground before the footpegs do).

Also, how do you plan on fixing the headers to the collector? Dr. Campbell suggests running a screw through the outer pipes(1&4) or adding quick release springs. Since the collector will have to be removed for each oil change, I plan on welding all four pipes to the collector and just remove the entire exhaust for oil changes. Seems to me that over time the collector might be a real pain to slide on and off all four pipes.

Thought I'd be at the point of running this pipe by now, but transmission trouble and other non-bike stuff has pushed the trial date towards Fall.

Scondon or Bgfootball...could one (or both) of you post a photo of this exhaust mounted on your bike? I'd really like to see a set mounted!

Also, which set did you order? On his website it doesn't look like he offers a set for the SOHC CB750. Did you order the open megaphones or get the mufflers?

Thanks!

Jinx, I ordered the open pipes about 3 years ago. I test fit them about a year ago when I started my project, I haven't run them yet and they are currently in pieces in a box. Sorry, no pics were taken.

x pipes have been around a while on cars, they work well.how they may work on a bike is anyones guess,i reckon you would have to have the bike dyno`ed with and without the pipe to find out for sure.

5th Circuit is a carburetor rebuild/tuning service they offer.  Shoot Dr. Campbell an e-mail or call him to get the lowdown, seemed like pretty cool stuff.

No pics on my bike specifically, attached are two pics of older 4s though, one is a CB 900 and the other I think may be a 750?  hard to tell as the bike is wheeling.

I hoped to have my rebuild / cafe done by July, but it is now looking like it is going to take quite a bit longer.  We will see, I have everything to put it back together except the paint job on the front fender, tank and seat?  I did a mock up also and it looked like I was going to need to fab the pipes a bit to get them to hug the frame.  Also trying to avoid taking off the pipes for each oil change, trying to figure something out.  We will see?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if you think that CB 900 is ugly, man you are on crack.  Just kidding, but that is one sweet ride.   :D

If you really loved me Sean, you'd send me that pipe.................  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

So anyone on here actually mounted one of these pipes yet?  I started the daunting task today!  Wife took the camera to work with her, so pics will come this weekend.  I did not care for the way the exhaust mounted from X-Pipe so ground off the collar and cut the pipe down so I can use the original spigots and the finned clamps.  Took the pipes to the exhaust shop and had the ends flared to go over the spigot.  Next I am going to cut a few reliefs in the flared ends so the pipe can be pinched.  After putting the pipe together and semi mounting it, it looks as if it hangs 2" low, even trying to pick the end up.  Need to take out an 1.5" out of each pipe somehow, then weld the thing together.  After that is taken care of I plane to wrap her in black exhaust wrap.

Good:??, sounds good (different), looks different......

Bad: Poor paint, collar from X-pipe fit terribly in the head (a bit over 1/8" play), hangs too low, no rear mount...

Sounds awful mate! Sean, if you're reading this, you must be convinced by now that you need to send me that manky ol' X Pipe so I can put it on my K1 , I mean, dispose of it thoughtfully! ;D
