Spark Plug Question for my 1976 CB550
« on: June 06, 2007, 01:17:31 PM »
Hello,
I know this is probably a stupid question but I would like to know the difference between:

NGK D7ES & NGK D7EA

After consulting the online manual, it says to use D7ES. However, when I check the NGK Spark plug website, it says I should use D7EA. I'm wondering what exactly the difference is and will it hurt my bike to use the wrong one??

Any help you could give would be appreciated.

Award the man a Banana as he is right, If you can get them ,and more importantly AFFORD them Fit D7EV
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Thanks. I actually got off my ass and did a little research on this after I posted the question. It appears that NGK no longer makes the S and the A is used in it's place. No wonder every store I called didn't have them! Anyway, I'm glad I found them.

I found the NGK D7EA plugs at NAPA. They were $2.00 each, which I didn't think was all that bad.

Other stores that carry them:
O'Reilly's
Checkers

Are they platinum? Iridium?

According to NGK's website,  the proper plugs for the 76 CB550 are NGK D7ES. I wonder; can D7EV's be used for my bike or are they only good for other bikes?

Oh believe me they are good BUT over here a standard D7EA costs £2 whilst a D7EV is £8 EACH, not sure which of the "precious" metals they but they do make a difference

I used D8EV in the '600'  and a Piranha ignition
It started easier and didn't misfire (as far as I could tell)
Got just about 44,000 miles out of them so the extra cost was worthwhile
