bought a butt ugly covered trailer
« on: June 10, 2007, 01:39:12 AM »
I picked up the ugliest damn trailer I have seen in awhile the other day. That said, after I finish with it, it won't be such an eyesore. The price was right @ $200.

I sold my 3 rail bike trailer to buy it. This covered one is home built and has odd measurements, but will transport a bike and gear easy enough. It is 7 ft long, 3'2" wide and around 4' 2" tall inside. I have to admit it looks pretty funny with those dimensions, but it tows very easy.

The frame, walls and roof are metal, and it has plywood flooring. If I can find someone who has some left over diamond plate - at a reasonable price -  I'll lay some of that down inside.

I am sanding it down and treating the rust spots now and will paint later. After that I have to rewire it. God I am glad I like projects!  ::)

Pics posted later.

It will be nice to be able to hide your pride and joy when moving it around, though. So, how much of a challenge will it be to load a bike if there is only 4' of headroom and 3' of width? How does a bike get tied down?

Man, compared to mine, that is pure beauty!

I finished sanding the front panel and have primed it already; tomorrow morning I start sanding down the roof. I hope that it isn't too hot!

I also just finished completely removing the unbelievably poor wiring system that the PO had installed.

I probably will be using the trailer to transport parts bikes and the like. If I have to secure a bike, I will have to install some tie downs inside.

I really suspect that once I am finished repainting and rewiring the trailer I will probably sell it and get a larger one. It looked larger when it sat in the PO's garage than it does sitting in my driveway!

Hey if you can get it looking nice for cheap, you can probably sell it for quite a bit. That is the beauty of trailers.
