Inline fuel filter?/ 16 in rear wheel
« on: June 09, 2007, 10:26:19 AM »
Hello everyone. I have 2 questions today. I had the new bike running well and idling nice. then one day the bike would no start unless i sprayed a little starter fluid into the intakes and when it started it would only run for 10 seconds. I have not cleaned the tank yet and have mild rust. I think I am fouling my carbs. If I use a inline fuel filter until I find the time to clean the tank will this prevent this from happening again. I really do not like cleaning carbs.

the second question is in regards to the rear wheel.  I would like to use a 16 inch rear wheel. What width do I need and what size rear tire should I order . I would like the biggest tire I can fit. Also where is the best place to get one of these.

  thanks to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had horrible luck running in-line fuel filters on my 550 there was no way to mount them so that they would stay vertical and I kept getting air bubbles that would starve the carbs, took the filters off and it ran great.  If you know that there is some rust in the tank then drain the tank and pull your petcock.  I was running out of fuel one day on my way home so I switched the petcock to reserve and it still wouldn't run right.  I got the bike home and pulled the petcock, the screen all the way up the reserve stand pipe was completely clogged with rust and debris.  I cleaned the tank really well and no problems since.

I have seen a number of bikes running 16x3 rear wheels.  You can do a search on ebay for a harley 40 spoke wheel and there are a few sellers on ebay that have the short stainless spokes for the conversion.  You can also check out these sites.
