MotoGP Today???
« on: June 10, 2007, 12:24:42 PM »
SpeedTV doesn't list the GP race from Spain today.  The 250 is in the listings at 4-5 central time, but no GP.  It's not listed any time this week either.  I hope this is a misprint...did anybody else notice?  My friends and family know I can't be held responsible for what I do if I miss a race.

It was live on BBC2 this afternoon.

What do you mean you don't get BBC2??

Also the F1 Montreal Grand Prix was live on ITV1.  What a great race by our new national hero!

Yup, no coverage on Speed, either today or Tuesday. I guess they figure that we just don't need to see it. I'm settling in for the 250 race, come what may.

I'm in the UK so we get it live on Eurosport, 5 hours in total.
But if you look on the MotoGP website I think it is now being shown on CBS free to air.
Incidentally that has got to have been one of the best MotoGP races of all time.

I agree with that. This year the Dukes are giving a big competition to the almighty japanese factories, making the fight more interesting. Rossi tried hard to make time on the turns, but the young australian would outrun him on the straight. Pedrosa decided to keep them at a safe distance just in case they hit each other and fall so he can benefit. It was a great race indeed.

Yeah, as much as I've been a fan of Valentino Rossi since I saw him kicking arrse on his 125 at the Phillip Island GP many moons aqo, I'm "stoked" to see young Casey Stoner doing so well against such a talented group of riders.

I'm hoping that when Valentino finally hangs up his leathers, Casey will be another Aussie world champion in the mold of the legendary Mick Doohan and Wayne Gardner. Well done Casey! Cheers, Terry. ;D

There is a saying in Spain that goes something like "it's easy to be a good f*ucker when you have a big c0ck" -my apologies for the terms, it goes that plain in spanish too. That is, when the bike is clearly superior, is easy to be a champion. I don't intend to start a war of words with Terry -poor Terry doesn't have many opportunities to be proud of his country  ;D-, but I think the real merit is in the Ducati R&D department.

Unfortunately for the rest of us mortals, if the Ducatis are so fashionable nowadays and they command a higher price than their japanese counterparts, if Ducati wins the championship the price will get even higher.

I beg to differ there Raul, As any woman will tell you, it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it ;)

I don't think people are giving Casey the credit he clearly deserves, if the Ducati is so superior how come the guy it was designed around isn't up at the sharp end too?

Rossi has a great attitude, lots of racers get burnt out after his number of years

Son of a BI#$^*&!!!

It was on regular network tv the whole time?  I guess it's good for the sport to get mainstream exposure here in the States.  Wish they would have run a few ads to clue us in though.  I'll be sure to catch the rest of them.

MONTMELO, SPAIN, JUNE 9: There’s a reason you can’t find Sunday’s Catalunyan Grand Prix in the SPEED listings; it’s not there. Instead this is the first of three races to be broadcast by CBS, with expert commentary by former 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz.

CBS will also broadcast the June 30 Dutch TT at Assen and the July 15 German GP at the Sachsenring, one week before the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Sunday’s hour-long program will be broadcast at 1:30 EDT on CBS. Schwantz was to arrive in Catalunya on Saturday after spending the previous week taking part in the Isle of Man Centenary festivities

Yep it was on network TV.... pretty good 3 way battle for the most part....

Had no idea it was on, pretty good coverage though - not as many commercials as most of
the sports shows
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

This season is shaping up to be one of the best ever. What really surprises me is how 'poorly' Honda is doing. They don't usually get caught with their trousers down when there is a significant change in the rules in the premier class.

My predictions for next year are that Texas Tornado Colin will be given the old heave-ho from Yamaha, and unless he really pulls things together for the rest of the season, Nicky Hayden ditto from Honda.

And then Honda will scoop up Jorge Lorenzo after winning his second straight 250 World Champioship........

I find it quite ironic that themanufacture who put most effort into campaigning for the 800cc format, that would make it's long favoured V4 the optimum engine to have, suddenly finds out that it can't build one as well as either Ducati or Suzuki can ;D

I can see Hayden cropping up in Colin's chair next year, the way Honda have treated him since the emergence of Pedrosa is a disgrace IMO >:(
It was so obvious last year that they didn't want him to be Champion, and his year they've given him a bike he doesn't even fit on ::)

Apart from your uncharacteristically disparaging remarks about Oz Raul, which of course is arguably the cultural centre of the universe, (if that doesn't start something to relieve my boredom, nothing will!) I could care less about the relative prices of Ducati's versus other bikes.

The truth is that I can't afford either, and anyway, I don't like modern sports bikes all that much, so if I was gonna buy a new bike, I'd buy a Hogley, a brand that I don't expect to see on the podium in any GP in the near future, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Honda & Yamaha both thought 800cc would be about corner speed and built the bike accordingly. I agree about Hayden & Edwards but Lorenzo to Yamaha if Rossi gives his blessing  :)

A: One has culture?

I thought Hayden just signed a 2 year extension before the end of last season.  He should still be at Respol next year.  No doubt, Pedrosa is the #1 rider at Honda.  It seems every other Honda rider is struggling with that tiny little bike.

Edwards may just retire.  He has two young children and I think he's coming to the realization that winning a title or even a race in MotoGP won't happen.  He's still got his Superbike championships and his millions of dollars to comfort him.  He is very well respected in racing and could probably hang on as a development rider for Michelin or another manufacturer.

Stoner has just amazed me.  A couple of wins early in the season I could understand.  I though for sure Rossi would stomp him at the European tracks, and he would crash out trying to keep up.  He's shown a lot of maturity in settling for a 3rd or 4th when the setup isn't there.  Ducati (with help from Bridgestone) has really shown some engineering muscle this season.  It's nice for Honda not to have the dominant bike for a change.

The next few races should be very interesting. Of course knowing our luck, Speed will show a bunch of cars going around in left hand circles, rather than a MotoGP race.  :-\

What's an Asian Cup? Most of the cups (in fact all the crockery) here is made somewhere in Asia, what's so special about the cups? ;D

Oh soccer? Sorry mate, I don't follow it, it's not at all big over here, we all got behind the guys last year with the world cup thingie, but in Oz, soccer is really only the preserve of ex-pat Brits and Europeans.
Cricket, I suppose, could be classified as our "national game", and as you know, we do very well in that arena.

Back to the Moto GP though, I think young Casey could well continue in the footsteps of our other recent world champions, and he couldn't have received a higher accolade than when Valentino Rossi referred to him as "God". Cheers, Terry. ;D
