CB750 Steering Lock
« on: June 10, 2007, 12:02:35 PM »
I have never tried to use the steering lock on my 1970 CB750 until today, and the key will not go in the lock. Does it use the ignition key, or is there supposed to be a second key? I suppose there could be something wrong with the lock or one of the lock cylinders could have been changed out so that they need different keys. The little metal cover is over the steering lock, and it appears to be in good condition from the outside.

The steering lock should use the same key as the rest of the bike.  It's possible someone changed that one or the other locks at some point in the past, but the fact that the key won't even go in tells me the tumblers are just frozen from age/ lack of use.

sounds ecatly like frozen wafers. squirt some wd40 or triflow in and let it soak. squirt again and try using the key. if you can get the key in squrit some more and put the key in and out several times to loosen the wafers. if it doesnt turn the lock would probably need to be removed and opened up and the wafers removed and cleaned.

I'll give the WD40 a try. Thanks
