Interesting Auction
« on: June 29, 2007, 02:22:29 PM »
I'd forgotten about this auction, it takes place just down the road from me, about 4 miles.

         Hey Malcom,
Appreciate you posting this. I was looking through the bikes and found a 51' BSA Bantam that has a gas tank that looks alot like what was on my first bike that my Dad built up for me. It had a BSA Bantam gas tank that had a chrome strip about 2" wide and 2 chrome strips that covered the seams where the tank was welded together. I'm thinking that it was about a 53'-55' model tank. I've got the bike that my Dad built but the tank wasn't there. I kinda looked on ebay some, for awhile and gound one once but the price went too high. I got a pretty good replacement though. I came across a "Brand new "Peanut tank" that has never had mount tabs welded on it.

                                   Later on, Bill :) ;)

Yeah, that was nice but, my attention was drawn to lot #403. It was none other than a 1955 Vincent 998cc Rapide Series D. ;) 8)
My! My! My! I haven't looked through all of it yet though. When my wife and I have gone to see old Historic houses or such, she always says something like, "If Those Walls Could Talk!" Well, that's how I feel about some of those old bikes. If they could tell the story behind their creation, where they've been and who's ridden them. 8)

CRAZY auction. It was interesting to read the story behind all the bikes and interesting to also see what they went for. I'm not sure what exactly the premium tax is, though. How much does that tack onto the price? Is it a tax on top of sales tax?

The premium is the Auction houses cut from the deal.

From what I can make out it's 15% upto £30,000 and 10% after, thats if it's the same as cars.

On top of that you have to pay the normal VAT (value added tax) 17.5% on the the amount of the premium.

For example , if an item sells for £100, you would have to pay £115 plus the VAT on the extra £15 = total £117.62.5
