Hey Terry,

The guy that sold me the bike seems to have a lingering problem getting the CV carbs on the GS dialed in.  Do you know much about them?  I could tell him to take a peek here, and ask for some help.  Is there another forum that might be good for him?

I lurk there also, it's an excellent resource, and these guys are probably more passionate about their bikes than we are!

Setting up the CV's isn't hard, the 1980-81 Aussie version came with 33mm Mikuni round slide carbs and produced a tad more power than the CV equipped US market bikes, but were fiddly to set up, and terrible on fuel.

I converted my red bike to CV's, they're much gentler on the wrist due to softer throttle return springs, and the fuel economy is phenominal, 55+ Mpg, with no fairing! As I said, they're easy to set up, just make sure the diaphrams are in good order, and set 'em up with a good vac guage, and they work great, I haven't touched mine in 7 years, and they still work fine.

And as much as I hate the term "Streetfighter", they are easy bikes to modify with better forks, brakes, wheels etc, as there was a lot of compatability with modern Suzuki offerings, like the mighty GSXR series. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well, six days and about 750 miles later I can say this is a GREAT bike; but I still like my old bikes just as well.  Entirely different, that's all.  I guess that's why folks want more than one bike.   ;D

I've done 5000 miles on mine since I collected it on 29th March.  No way would I subject my old 500/4 to that!

No she hasn't, but I caught her out in the garage sitting on it, trying it out.   ;D

I've got to come up with a backrest for her to ride with me.  She says she's too nervous to take it for a spin just yet.

My wife last went touring on the pillion of my 500 (avatar) in 1978! She won't go anywhere near it now ("I'm too old for that sort of thing")

My daughter however, loves it!

I have a 36 litre Givi topbox which she leans on.

A rack and topbox may be my solution.  I don't really need the storage space just now, and the look and aerodynamics don't appeal to me (though I haven't checked that last one; I'm just guessing).  There's no hurry on it, but I'm keeping my eyes open for a solution.

I don't have panniers like you.

I have to carry my work stuff and a backpack every day, so the box is really necessary.

When I go out for fun I leave it off and wear a "bum bag" - big enough for phone, wallet and camera!

I have an SW Motech (German) rack which is really cool and cheaper than the Triumph rack. With the correct adaptor plate, all the Givi and Kappa luggage will fit.

That looks pretty nice.  There's someone selling a brand new Triumph rack in ABQ.  Maybe I'll shoot him an email...

You'll still need an adapter plate for Givi/Kappa.  Unless of course you have a Triumph box as well...  $$$$$
