Running!!
« on: June 14, 2007, 07:07:39 PM »
last night, the cases were split. this morning, I was adjusting the valve clearances and installing carbs and exhaust. Rode her to the inspection site and I'm now finally on the road. Still checking for leaks and issues, but smooth shifting through all gears (thanks BryanJ) and so far glitch free electrics ( thanks Lloyd). Broke my digital at ocean city last weekend, so I'm gonna have to get a disposable and post pics tomorrow that way.

many thanks,
hym

Congrats!

Sadly, I normally find a whole new major issue after one has been solved.  :(

well done,

I hope you have many miles of uninterrupted quality riding - you deserve it after all the issues you have been through with the motor...

but at least you know how to rebuild an engine blindfolded now....

did you have any spare parts left over like a few washers, nuts bolts ??? :)

I had installed the selector drum such that the roller could never reach the cut out on the cam disc. when I re installed the drum, checking that the roller and disc were mated up, and that the selector forks went on their respective cogs, its ok.

OK Hym, Thats a new one on me, i must have just been lucky in the past, I have seen many different problems, including an owner not fitting one of those "R" clips on a selector pin!

At least you havent got the problem I had on one sales bike (500 four), Kept comming back not running right and i could never find a problem with it as the customer left it outside the "shop" and posted the keys until one day I was early and he was late and I caught him removing his "waterproofs" from under the seat where they were blocking off the air cleaner intake.

One embarassed customer later and a fixed bike!! Brought in LOADS of goodwill and work as we had kept trying without getting #$%*y about it.
