Brake Pads
« on: June 28, 2005, 10:03:13 AM »
Hello all,
I am the proud new owner of a 1978 CB750F and I need to replace the rear brake pads. They are down to the metal... Any tips? My Clymer book's pics are of a different year and I'm a little confused ( I've never done it before and I don't want to F it up!).
I did a search on the site and read through the FAQs to no avail....
Think I'll have to replace the disk as well? Can you have them turned? I'll also be servicing the front brakes once I get a handle on the rear- they feel quite spongy and weak but the pads are good.
Any help is appreciated including pics!
Thanks,
Joe

You can turn you rotors but you must make sure they stay at a certain thickness and dont go below.
For the most part, the work should be the same as the front brake, you just may have to remove the rear tire.

Any good resources for info on those certain calipers? The bolts pictured in my manual aren't there :-\ Should I just pull it and wing the process? Like I said, i've never done this before... It's my first bike and I want to learn how to service all I can.
My brother had a 78 750k so I think he'll be able to help quite a bit, but I want to do my homework before he comes over to help.

Well I have a 78 k as well and so I do not have a rear disk. I have a drum which works just as good. If I use medium force, I can lock that rear tire up like no ones business.

If you have a book that shows the front brake disassembly, you can use that as a guide. There are both 1 piston. You may be able to get a download on this site for your bike. You just need to get the link which I dont have since I have my manual on cd.
