dyna S or 2000?
« on: June 16, 2007, 06:30:05 PM »
i want to put a dyan(or similer) electric ignition on my 76 CB750F.  i want it for its easy tune and reliabilty.  plan on slowly upgrading the motor and so the 2000 would be nice but is it worth the money?  what have you guys used and what have you thought of it?  anything that i should know about these set ups?

For really hard riding the 2000 is worth it for the rev limiter. A hotrodded engine can over-rev and blow apart amazingly fast if you blow a shift. The stock engine is pretty much out of steam before reaching grenade RPMs but it can be broken too. If you install a turbo the 2000 has another advantage with some special turbo ignition curves.
For less extreme riding the S is fine. The stock advance curve is effective, unless you lug the engine a lot you run at full advance all the time while riding anyway. If you don't do drag race shifts then I doubt the 2000 is worth the added cost - remember that the S will work with stock coils but the 2000 requires buying new low resistance coils as well.
