Has anyone used a bead of silicone in place of the point cover gasket?

It's a special order from the dealer.  I was looking for a stop gap measure.

if it seals, it is fine for the points cover. Just make sure nothing gets onto the moving parts or the points.

The original cork isn't so great--its going to dry out, and doesn't really re-seal so well if you have to remove the cover. You're better off tracing a gasket out of neoprene.

Thanks for the response from all of you.  The bike should be rolling this weekend.  I had a spill last July and bent the forks, triple tree, handle bars, foot pegs ... you get the picture!  I did some upgrades and I've got the riding itch real bad.  I'll post some photo's.
