Air box & rubber boots
« on: June 16, 2007, 01:53:44 PM »
I just got a newer air box on Ebay with rubber boots that go between the air box and carb.  Aside from getting the rubber boots up onto the carbs as far as possible, is there anything special that I have to do to keep dirt, etc. from getting into the air box?

Just make sure the lip gasket is in place all around the perimeter of the casing and the filter is in it when you fasten the cover.

Also, make sure the airbox-to-carb rubbers haven't shrunk so they fit loosely in the airbox. They should fit tightly.

Thanks... a local mechanic told me that I should put some silicone sealer around the carb-to-airbox rubbers to make sure they didn't leak.  I didn't really like the sound of that since the rubber is pretty snug already.  You confirmed my thinking.
