Watched it for the first time yesterday whilst enjoying a brewski with the youngest son, pre tattoo session.

Having never seen it before I was interested to see guys basically kicking the s#!t out of each other. At least the misery only lasts for 3 rounds or until someone cries "enough!".

We live in an interesting age. It's almost like 'civilisation' has gone full circle back to the Roman era when they used to get entertainment out of watching people fight each other or be pummelled by fierce creatures. The only difference is the now we let both contestants live.

UFC is crap, pride is where it is at. At least for right now. It is not watered down with the fake crap that ufc is. But ufc bought pride and I suppose that is on the way.

As for ghost rider, Hey I thought it was pretty cool. Course I dont gauge my movies on wether they adhere to comic books or not. You do that and you will be disappointed al the time! You have to enjoy the movie for what it is. besides women in real life will never have the bodies or boobs they do in comics! :D

I watch it because I have two good friends that I wrestled with in college that are UFC fighters.  Josh Koscheck and Charlie Brenneman.

Who could have imagined it would be a billion dollar business?

Sparty, who did you wrestle for... I assume somewhere in Pennsylvania?  What weight?

I wrestled for Virginia Tech - 118, but of course that was 20 years and 30+ lbs. ago.   ;)

Used to watch boxing all the time and still try to catch a few "good ones". De La Hoya vs Mayweather, this fight was terrible and they wanted $65 for HD. I would rather pay $40 and watch somebody get knocked the !@#$ out. Thats why I follow UFC because boxing was getting to boring. Been watching for a few years now. Also, watch Ultimate Fighter. Fake, not really sure about that. You could almost say that about anything. Oh, NASCARs fake..... This really isn't WWF or whatever the h3ll you call it now, kidd #$%*. At some points the UFC is getting like it, fighters coming in the octagon from the crowd trying to call other fighters out. I guess its all in the eyes of the viewer. If I thought it was fake I damn sure wouldn't be watching it. Yeah, there are some boring fights but at least 8 of 10 are good. Plus you get to see alot of the top guys fight on SPIKE without paying for it..

Maybe not so much as fake but certainly too much drama and crap like that. I mean look at "professional" wrestling. Ufc is starting to get to that point.

UFC is a growing craze. It sems to be taking over the "boxing" era. Its more bloody with more bones breaking and faces smashed. How about the up and coming Boxer vs. Street Fighter? Not sure if anyone has ever heard of the underground street fighter Kimbo Slice (he's all over the internet), but they are putting him up in a ppv match against heavyweight champ Ray Mercer.  It should be a darn interesting fight! I'll put a link below if anyones interested.

When I was a kid, I thought WWF was real.

UFC is WWF for people that want something "realistic".  I mean like that Wayne Gracie guy.  He would get some dude on the ground and all of a sudden the other guy taps out.  Like I didn't see anything!  Apparentlyl he used the guy's Gee or clothes to choke him.  Ok cool.  There's blood...ok.  But it's mostly really aggressive wrestling.   You can't bite, scratch or gouge the eyes.  Not sure on the complete rules like kicking to the groin but I think most of the fighter's ability are limited and used to prolong and entertain.

I've gotten into heated debate over the real factor but I remember reading something about how most fights, in bars anyway, are no more than 60 seconds.

I mean have any of you been in a real fight?  Was THAT like what you see on UFC...I think not!

Um...Fight Club is "realistic".

You do NOT talk about Fight Club!
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.  Aristotle

The reason it doesn't look like a typical 'bar' fight is because these guys are 'skilled'.  It's not simply about swinging for the fences and hoping to connect.  These guys train everyday and in various disciplines.  Even though it looks barbaric to some, there is a lot of strategy and thinking going on.  To me, it is almost like chess.  Making a move, countering a move, thinking moves ahead... and in this type of fighting where almost anything goes vs. say boxing or wrestling (no, not WWF), it becomes even more complex.  A wrestler has an advantage of manipulating the body of his opponent, a boxer has the skill to knock his opponent senseless, a jiu-jitsu specialist has the ability to submit his opponent through various chokes and/or locks.  Anyone can beat anyone depending on skill level, strategies and even plain ole luck.  It is as real as fighting for entertainment can get... barring the gladiators and I don't think we really want to return to that level.  Me, I'm glad they changed the rules of UFC and cleaned it up a bit, because if they hadn't, the sport would have been banned.  It was already getting to that level before the changes were made.

In my opinion, there is a lot more hype being put into it, but that's all the promotion aspect of it.  We must remember that this is a business and they are competing with every other form of entertainment.  I expect this aspect of it to get worse rather than better, but at least right now, even with the pre-fight hype, if you look closely, you can still see the respect that these guys have for each other.  Granted, I'm sure there are fighters out there that truly hate each other too!
