another bike out the door---cb750 K3
« on: June 15, 2007, 05:00:47 PM »
cleaned this one up to sell to a friend. finally broke in the DOOMTOWN RIDERS new paint booth this weekend, after having gone through most of everything else. if anyone wonders why i replaced the hm341's with the 4-1, mark (mlinder) talked me out of them, and i sanded the #$%* out of his rusty headers and painted them. new seat cover, polished engine covers; painted tank, side covers, upper triple tree, idiot light mount, and gauges; new tires, chain, points, etc. pretty sharp bike for the guy's first...i'll be handing over the key tomorrow. kinda jealous of that paint job now... ::) ::)

My question too.

yeah, mine too... ::)

i called my machinist again today (it's been there over 6 months now), and the desk person who is now back from a long sick leave, told me to "give them another week." i don't believe it will be ready for me to assemble in a week, but last time i saw it the cases and cylinders had been bored to accept the 750 liners, which had already been shortened and turned down to fit in. all he had to do was spotface the studholes and oil passageways where the liner flanges were overlapping them, and we were going to begin mocking it up. won't know until then if the pistons will need a bit of nipping around the shoulder or not. believe me, i'm anxious and hoping that maybe he'll cut me a deal for taking so long.  i'll post some detailed pics in the other thread when it's done.

Mreick--got a question for you. with said spotfacing, i'll be able to keep the oil passages to the head stock, but i'm still considering running them externally. my thoughts are that: A) the oil is going to be passing pretty damn close to the cylinders, presumably heating it up quite a bit in the process, and B) running the lines externally would not only bypass this, but would theoretically aid in cooling the oil as it passes through an air-exposed line.

any opinion?

Sure...the external lines would be best in regard to heat and leaks. Plug the originals and go for it. I wouldn't even think twice about it.

stock seat, with a recover from the guy from new zealand who sells them on ebay. i put the chrome trim on the bottom last night (like you see on the tank), so it looks more like the stock seatcover.

Looked a little slim thats why I asked. Is  it K1 K2 style or a k5 k6 style?  I,m guessing k1 k2 by the tank. Looks like the guy sells a great cover. What did you use for the chrome trim tank trim or automotive door trim? Bike looks great!

as far as i can tell, the seat was the original---it's not as slim up front as the K0-K2's.  i used door trim on the tank and seat.

yeah, except that the red isn't a match to the tank. i was experimenting with catalyzed clearcoat over rattlecan enamel (worked out just fine), and used a red i had on hand. had i known it was gonna look good, i'd have mixed up some catalyzed red and shot it instead. oh well. can't see in the photo, but it's actually red fading to black on the front.
