750 supposed to sound like a Maytag?
« on: May 20, 2007, 05:31:21 PM »
;D I like my bike, but the engine noise sometimes reminds me of a washimg machine.   Normal for a 76f?  I Adjusted the cam chain and points.  I never before paid attention to sounds other than the exhaust note.

Which cycle?  Wash, spin, or rinse? ;D

'tis a wonder what the addition of a muffler will do, ya hear sounds never heard before.

That is the truth. For years I had ran drag pipes on my 550. Last year I put a new 4 into 1 on it and sure enough, every engine sound you can hear clear as day. The crazy part is that my 4 into 1 is not THAT quiet! I can’t imagine the sounds you would hear with the original 4 into 4's!

Oddly, my 750 sounds like a Singer sewing machine.  I think maybe the cam chain is loose, though I followed the procedure for adjusting it.  On the other hand, my 550 makes almost no noise at all, except for the rotted exhaust ;D

Here's a new one, maybe, I took the exhaust off my bike to get at the oil filter.  After getting the oil changed, I wanted to see what my bike sounded like with no exhaust at all.  Well, it sounded like cartoon bubbles popping, like "bloop, bloop".  Is that anywhere normal?  The bike actually runs pretty good.

Yeah, it is really silly sounding without any headers, isn't it?  550 sounds the same way.
