Online dating
« on: June 18, 2007, 12:24:23 PM »
So I haven't joined Match.com or eHarmony because I'm cheap.  I've never tried a newspaper ad because that's just weird.  I have dated online though and some hit and some miss.  It's great.

True story:  She was an ex-stripper.  Married her and she put my ass in jail, I got kicked outta med school, got fired from my job, took all my money, car, and sold the house.   I now drink, smoke and wear an open face helmet.  I'm gonna ask out this lady (not from online but because it's scary online) that is kinda cute but I suspect she's a crack addict or an anorexic.  Sometimes I think this is better than being overweight but I haven't really dated anyone skinny.  Average at best.

In another incident, this girl was also in Adultfriendfinder.com and apparently loves sex.  I thought she was just a normal girl.  Boy that was crazy.  Nimphos do exist.  I'm not affiliated with any of those crazy sites.  Match.com and those other places are for marriage minded crazies.

I know of several people who have found their soul mate via the www. The feedback I get is that you have to be pretty specific about your needs, hopes and wants. Otherwise you will end up with meeting some "interesting" personalities.

I met my fiance on Match.com and it was the best $$ I've ever spent.  There were some crazies along the way like the ex-model that just wanted to sit around the house all day eating my food and complaining when I came home tired from working.  There was the girl that unloaded all her issues on the table at dinner less than 15 minutes after we met.  Plenty more but they were worth putting up with to find the right woman, if that's what you're looking for.  I've had friends that use it just for casual dating.  It's all in your expectations...

My wife (#2 for me, #4 for her) and I found each other at Lavalife.com.  After emails and phone calls, she invited me to an Angels game, bought me beer and went back to her place to talk until 1am.  4 months later we are planning a wedding, bought a Suburban and then a Harley.  And now we have a 2 yo daughter, 5 boys (from previous) and 4 motorcycles.  Life is good!

That story usually ends with "...all of a sudden she shouted that her husband was home early!  I jammed out the back where my bike was parked and hid under it.  While there I noticed that (fill in the blank) was (fill in the blank).  So- my question is; do I need any special tools to fix that, or is it something I can do myself?"

That said, I've had pretty good luck on Match.com.  Like so many other things, you get out of it what you put in (so to speak).  But the online sites are just a subset of what's out there.  And there are some really screwed up people on this earth.  Many of them have computers.

It's pretty amazing what getting over yourself, getting out of the house, and talking to people will accomplish.

I start dating my wife when I was 16 and she was 19. Now I am 36 and can hardly remember how my life was before her. Have no experience in online dating, but I think is a good thing, specially for men. Allows you contact women without the embarrasment of feeling rejected. I got some rejects before my wife was my girlfriend and it was hard to keep with it.

Experience and treachery trumps youth and exuberance every time.

I sometimes reminisce of my early 20's and wish I was there, but then I think back then I had no money, no car, lived with my parents, and then I think I wouldn't trade today for yesterday. We can't choose the moment we are born so the best thing we can do with life is, like playing poker, trying to get the most with the cards we are given.

The same goes with the original post, dating. I sometimes think what have I missed by staying with the same woman for so long. It's true that I find many women out there very attractive, but it doesn't mean the opposite apply, and provided my wife knows me very well and, even then, she wants to stay with me, I can't complain at all. I try to make her life as pleasant as possible.

Raul, I refuse to divulge my age so don't look in my profile, let us just say I'm 21 plus taxes. and I've been putting up with the same wife for 58 years.

Met my wife on Match.com.

Actually we almost called it quits 2 months into our dating. She wanted to check up on me and see if I actually took my profile down like I told her I would (and I was being honest that I would). Well, I forgot to and she saw it still posted up. She almost was a no show to our date that night. Luckilly she came and we worked it out.

I have the current house I reside in due to online dating.

The owner (woman) needed to get laid more often than the other owner.
And they broke up, sold the house to me.

SO, I am all for online dating. ;D

It's funny. She was all excited when I talked to her earlier that day on the phone. It was Halloween and we planned to meet at a bar later that night. When I saw her she was all standoff-ish. She told me why she was upset and I was like DOH! It took a while but she believed me that I actually meant to take it down.   ;D
