I just got quoted at the local Honda dealer. $45 dollars to mount and balance a tire on a spoke wheel. the wheel is off the bike. Does this sound right. It seems steep to me. thanks!!!

I recently did this.

A local guy said he'd do it for $15 per if I bring in the wheels off the bike, or $100 if he has to do the work. His real business is building custom bikes and trikes. Was doing me a favor.

The local, private, bike repair shop wanted $30 per if I brought in the wheels off the bike, or $70 if they did the work.

A Honda shop charged $45 per with the wheels off. I went with them because they were convenient to my commute, and did it while I waited. They also caught a mistake that I had a wrong rim strip, and replaced it with an appropriate one. They're all old-timers, so I trust them anyways....

Local off-road shop here did my back tire (tyre) for $25. Cheap, but I did have to put up with his crusty attitude... "grumble, grumble, grumble... why would you want to ride an old bike like THAT anyway?? ...grumble, grumble, grumble..."

Just got mine done this spring - $25US for both tires installed and digitally balanced. I took the wheels off myself and took them up.

Don't think I've ever paid more than $15 per rim if I bring in the wheels off the bike. Your best bet is usually smaller shops or motorcross shops.

Yea, I just paid like $25 or so for my tire change. I'm thinking $45 is pretty steep.

my local honda shop recently mounted a set of tires for me at $25 a piece when i brought them in off the bike. not sure what the price would have been on the bike but i agree $45 per wheel sounds a little pricey unless they are including new tubes in that price too...

I do my own so any price is too steep! Seriously though, you can save money by presenting them with the wheel off the bike. If you buy the replacement tyre from them too you will possibly pay less.

$45 would be the upper end of a price I would pay.

The local honda dealership says they will mount and balance my comstars for 50.00 each rim.
And that price is whether I buy the tires from them or not.
A local place white knuckle sports is willing to mount and balance for 25 a rim IF i buy the tires through them. 40 a rim if I provide the tires.

My local Honda shop charges $45 per tire - if you bring in....
Cheapest I could find in my local (Denton TX) was $30 per tire.
I had 4 that need to be done.... and 120$ seemed too much for me so I did them myself.
1st time I had ever changed a motorcycle tire. Took me a while but I did it. Without tire irons I migh add.
Then again, I'm a cheapskate and didn't mind the hassle.

Last fall I paid 25.00 mounting only. Balancing was 15.00.

my local dealer charges 35 each on the bike if buy the tires thru them, 75 each if not bought there.

My local dealer mounts and balances for free if you buy the tires from them. I was looking at some Bridgestone Spitfires but they quoted me list ($89 and $109 or something) when it's nearly half that at americanmototire.com.

About a month ago, I paid the local bike shop $49 US to mount and my front and rear tires and put in new tubes. I took the tires off the bike myself and dropped them off at the shop.

Seemed like a fair price to me.

Talk About Close to Home,

The day before yesterday I had to buy a new tire and tube for my rear wheel on my 750............. got them from a place here in Phoenix called "The Wheel Shop"............

Since I had the wheel off and took it down to them, they said "You buy the tire, we mount and spin balance, no charge.

I was plenty happy, because where I happen to live, I didn't have anyone else to go to anyway.............

My Local Honda dealer (Austin TX) wanted $50 to mount and balance each tire, or $35 if I bought the tire from them. That's off the bike. A small local shop did it for $15, mounting and balancing, off the bike. If you have the option of going to a small shop instead of the dealer, try that route. A lot of the real small or vintage shops around here advertise on Craigslist. You might want to look there.

Local Honda dealer wanted $25 to mount the tire and balance. I brought the wheel, tube and new tire in to them with the old tire already removed. (This was when I redid my back wheel)
