CB750 KO diecast
« on: June 15, 2007, 11:00:22 AM »
Minichamps, a premier maker of diecast models, is coming out with 1:6 scale diecast of a 1969 CB750 KO.  Their detail is usually something to behold.  I imagine it should show up at dealers in the next couple/few weeks.

EWA http://ew1.com/index.html and Replicarz (http://www.replicarz.com/ are a couple of good diecast sellers here in U.S.

I think I'm going to get one and cafe it!  Just kidding purists!   ;D  Enjoy!

I haven't seen a price yet, but keep in mind this is 1/6th scale.  That's going to be pretty big.  I believe most of their 1/6th motorcycle models sale for around $120.00.

Here's some more details and pics:
Model Features:
158 Parts.
50 Mask sprays, 15 Tampo prints, 8 Decals, 18 Free sprays - Decorations in total 91.
- original metal chain
- movable seat
- spring loaded movable kick starter
- spring loaded movable accelerator handle
- movable clutch- and brake levers
- movable brake pedal
- folding foot rests
- opening fuel trap
- removable tool bag
- Ignition Key
- real spoke wheels

Now don't any of you get any ideas about buying one as a parts bike.

So it starts up and runs, right? I actually have a plastic kit of the same thing from Tamiya. Detail is really good. Problem with Minichamps is they are poor at meeting scheduled product releases. I've been waiting for their 1/12 scale Vincent to come out for 6 months now. I've already talked to the folks at Replicarz and they confirmed this - but did offer to allow me to pre-order. I'll wait until they actually show up, thank you!

I knew about this same model about one year ago. Believe me; it is detailed and it is big -just a hint smaller than a cat-. The price is about 160 euro. It is not the price but the size what keep me from getting one.

I also want to have the smaller model. They doesn't have opening seats or moving chains but they are very detailed too. I hesitate to buy it via Internet because they are very delicate. I want to get a mint one. Even the brake lines are reproduced, so if anybody gets the model out of the box it can be damaged. Therefore I rather buy it directly from the shop.

Raul,

I have bought tons of diecast (all online) and I think I have only had one that had an issue.  Roberts, Jr. 2000 500cc championship winner, the front fender was off, but I easily fixed it.  These things are usually screwed to the base (easily removed) and covered with a plastic cover.  Someone would have to stomp on it to damage the bike/car inside.  I'm sure if you drop it from high enough onto something hard, it could get damaged too, but I've only had the one problem.

This one was made on the 70's by a spanish brand "Guisval". Brand new in box. I never opened it. The worst scale model ever seen!

I have the Minichamps 1/6 CB750 in red. I bought it in the UK for about 80 pounds in October 2005. Really nice details.

These look really good. I wonder if they could scale up those side covers and airbox. About six times would be about
right.  ;D

I see that IXO just released a CB750 diecast as well, along with A LOT of other vintage bikes (Nortons, Vincents, Ariels, etc).  These are 1:24th scale and don't have near the detail as Minichamps, but they don't have near the price either.  These are $9.95 at EWA.  You possibly could even find them cheaper elsewhere, but I've always had good service w/ EWA.  Replicarz is another good source.

The one you have just posted by IXO were made by order of a spanish publisher named Altaya. They sell collections, and the one for the CB750 was named "Motos clásicas de colección". You could buy a 10 page monography and the model for 8.95 euro. It covered the Commando, the Square Four, the Bonneville, some spanish bikes, BMW's, Terrot, Ossa M9ck Andrews, Montesa Sammy Miller etc.

I have the CB750 model, and even sold a couple of them on eBay. They are very detailed, but unfortunately they couldn't match the colour and the model has a hint of orange.

Xtalon, the Minichamps models doesn't come bolted to a base and inside a box. They come in a box with a molded plastic surrounding it. The only way to enjoy it is to get it out of the box and display it. Obviously, if either the seller or the previous owner had it displayed, chances are something got broken. I rather buy one from the shop, picking it up from a pile of unopened boxes, just to make sure the last time the box was open was when somebody at the factory put the model inside.

I would hate paying 80 euros to get a model with a broken brake lever or cable just to read the seller say "I'm sorry, it was perfect when I send it. Must have been a bad handling at the post".

For that price, I hope Minichamps remembers the tank stripe on the production units they offer for sale!

Don't worry, the production has a nice set of stripes (on the red one anyway).

I have 1/6 tank stripes if it doesn't have them (honest). Did them for the Tamiya.

Thanks for the correction Raul.  I have never personally bought a Minichamps motorcycle model, but I have lots of their cars and IXO motorcycles, both of which are screwed to the base, so I 'wrongly' assumed Minichamps motorcycles would be too.
