My CB350. Slowly coming together... (with pics)
« on: June 21, 2007, 01:26:27 PM »
I've seen a few CB350 popping out over here lately, so I thought I should post a couple of pics of my bike. As it is not finished yet I will post just two pictures, with the before and after. This July it will be two years since I bought it. During the last 8 months I've been putting a lot of time on it. I hope to have it finished by late july-mid august.

I have gone through up and downs all the time. More than financial downs, it was mental downs. I have stripped to the bone another bike (a spanish made Sanglas thumper) and bought another Sanglas bike that, though I didn't tear it down, it took some time to replace the starter motor and fix some things. When you have so many open fronts it is difficult to concentrate on a single point. Everytime I had to start working on the CB, just by seeing the overwhelming amount of work ahead, I just feel like sitting on the couch. Restoring a bike should be also about fun, so when those times happened and the restoration seemed to be an obligation I just stepped aside, do something else and let the bike rest until I feel like wrenching again.

It has been a ground-up restoration. Even the lower crankcase was replaced - original one was good but the threads of the plug seemed a little weak so I decided there was no better time to get that sorted out. And the same goes with many other things. Engine cases polished, blinkers and some other parts rechromed, other chrome bolts and nuts replaced, new -used- rear shocks, rebuilt front shocks, new pistons, rings, timing chain etc, new drive chain and sprockets, new -used- rear wheel -didn't want to rechrome the old one-, new -used- handlebar, rebuilt coils, new -used- wire loom, new control cables, rebuilt lever and foot brake switch, rebuilt starter relay, new -used- three-piece lock set, new -used- seat, new -used- tank, repainted sidecovers, fork ears and shrouds, allen bolts almost everywhere, new front mudguard, european version -almost unobtainable-, new -used- exhaust, even new blinker lens screws and gaskets. Well, you know what I'm talking about....

Glad to see you found some time for it Raul.  I know it's been sitting a while waiting for some love.
Nice job on the motor. It will turn a few heads when you are done.

Kathleen rode hers over to the city today and we had quite a gathering around hers at the ferry line.
