Fuel Petcock
« on: October 08, 2007, 09:49:17 AM »
I am in need of a fuel tank petcock for my 1978 CB750K. Original is not leaking, but there is no rebuild kit for this model (per Cycle-Recycle here in Indy) so I'm thinking a back up is in order. I've tried ordering a couple of times on the net and each time I get a message that this part is not avail.

I ordered some parts through these guys, they were a little slow filling the order but I was able to get original parts.  If I were you I would give them a call and make sure they can get it before placing my order online.  I know they don't have any sidecovers even though they are listed for my '77 CB550k.

Scroll down and enter in your info in the fields...

If I were you I would also order some things that you would need down the road like oil filters and stuff like that since your gona need em anyway...  Good Luck

One more thing... The diagrams of parts have helped me out numerous times since I don't have a manual and they give you a general idea of how things go back together   :)

Hi,
It's a little difficult to see in the fiche.
If it's the single outlet model that screws onto the male tank connector, there's not much to rebuild. The little textile(maybe it was naugahyde) washer between the body and the selector barrell does not appear to be necessary, at least I am not, and the only other  parts are easily accessed and cleaned.

I rebuilt a completely non working and ugly one by just cleaning and reassembling it.

I was surprised to find that the part number is still listed by Honda if you want to replace it. Otherwise get another off of ebay.

All best,
Ben

I think ordering parts for future is the way to go. I was able to buy a e-copy of the original owners manual online and that was a lifesaver. Plus Clymer's it's just been getting your hands dirty and scrounging around for parts. When it done I'll post some pictures. Future stuff includes braided hoses and HP lighting, but right now I just want to be on the road. I'm running out of weather.

Do a search for "petcock repair" These are not meant to be repaired but it is not difficult. The replacement packing is only a few bucks. I included the part number.
