Found me a '75 scrambler
« on: June 24, 2007, 07:58:00 PM »
Hi, I found a 1975 750 Scrambler in my apartment parking lot. No plates and looking kinda rough. Anyway, I'm gonna try and hunt the owner down and see if he wants to let me have it. Both the tires are flat and there's some rust on some of the frame. Looks just like some surface stuff though. Nothing too bad. The engine and stuff looks pretty good, all things considered. The tank looks kinda good. Looks like somebody just parked it there and walked away. I mean, I'd like to get it running, learn how to ride, but failing that, I'll just reverse engineer it. Gimme something to do. My mechanical muse is getting bored and angry.

Um, I've resurrected cars before but I don't know nothing bout no bringing a bike back to life. My dad said just drain everything, refill, find a battery, and try and crank it. Any tips or anything? Try and get the shop manual? Are parts hard to find? Expensive? I don't know anything about riding a bike though. Gonna take a course at the school, but I'd kinda rather learn on my own.

Welcome and good luck ferreting out the owner. If you get it, post a picture.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Good for you!  I too am a huge car buff as well (pretty much anything).  Anyhow, when I bought my '70 750 K0, I didn't have much practical experience in working on motorcycles, just the stuff that I've read. I've learned so much by actually doing (in spite of breaking a few parts here and there), and asking the collective forum questions and asking for suggestions.

Pics?
