My Projects Are Temporarily On Hold
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:33:21 AM »

For those who might be wondering about my 77' CB550K Cafe Project and the 63' CB77 Super Hawk projects, they are temporarily on hold due to a "Family Situation." Without going into too much detail, let me just say that my Dad (who will be 82 next month) is starting to have some medical problems, along with memory lapses and my brother is a "greedy, out for what ever he can get #*&". Dad and my brother live about 1/2 mile apart and I live about 2 hrs away. So, with gas prices the way they are and not having room to see about getting him (my Dad) to stay with us for visits now and then, I'm gonna be somewhat stretched out for a bit. Hopefully I'll be back on track before too long. When I get a chance, I'll probably be selling some of my "Projects" before I even get started, but that's life. I'm not down, just kinda floundering I guess.

Hang in there Bill...we're thinking of ya! It sucks to go through this kind of thing but just think of all the projects dad probably had to put on hold when you were a kid and he was being a responsible parent...things come full circle eventually. May want to remind your greedy brother of that little thought. If karma doesn't set him straight maybe a straight talk over a cold beer would...if all else fails I know where you can get a bounty hunther in PA...lol...Sorry not to joke about your situation or anything just trying to add some levity into what is obviously a trying time for you...

Keep your head up and do what's right by your dad...the projects can wait.

Hey Bill, sorry to hear about your dad's current situation.  I hope things improve.  I'm even sorrier to hear about your 'greedy' brother because all that does is make a more difficult time a lot more difficult for you.  I know you can handle your dad's situation because as God fearing man you know it is part of life, but your brother's situation just makes things that much harder because it is totally unnecessary.

Hang in there and remember you have this motley lot here to cheer you up if you need it.   ;)

Hang in there, Bill.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.  It's bad enough to have a parent who is at that stage of life.  the other problem makes it really unbearable.
Sorry we couldn't get together when Martha and I went out to Kansas a few weeks ago, but maybe another time.

Damn Bill,

I'm sorry to hear that brother. Our prayers are with you.

For those members that don't know..... Bill is a damn fine human being. He's the first to inquire how a missing member is doing, the first to interject a voice of reason into some of our "heated" discussions, and the first to offer words of sympathy when adversity strikes.

I want to thank you guys for your kind words, your thoughts and your prayers. They ALL mean a lot to me, more than you'll ever know. This place is like a 2nd Home to me and you all are part of that!

kghost, you are Definitely TOO kind with your comments. My Dad taught me a very long time ago that you treat others the way you want them to treat you and you'll find that that treatment will go both ways,  if the other person is worth anything at all. And if it doesn't go both ways, it's not your fault because you did what was right. Thanks again there Tim.

You all are the BEST and soon as I can get past this, I'll be working to get back in the swing of things.

I'm kinda working on a "Game Plan", so to speak. I've had time to clear my head (like that was a hard job! Still can find a little humor now and then) and Yes Sam, I have consulted a lawyer ( my wife used to work for his wife's "abstract and title co", so we knew him through that) about what my legal rights are and he didn't charge me for the counsultation (of course if I have to use him in court, that might be a different matter :-\) I've never had any legal battles of any kind, so I'm definitely inexperienced in those matters and, hopefully, I won't get the reason to do so in this case either. The main thing is that I don't want my brother to take advantage of my the fact that my Dad's getting up there in years and is getting very forgetful about some things. :-\ I won't go into it too much cause I don't have time to put it all down and you all don't have THAT much time to read ( I don't know if I would ever finish typing)!
I want to thank you ALL for all the kind words and encouragement on this. Best thing I've done in a long time was to join this forum! ;)

Hey Bill,
I'm going through almost the same thing with my parents. They're 81, and my Dad's started falling. I'm the only sibling in the area, so I've put my house on the market and am in the process of moving in with them..luckily, they're both really sharp, but my Dad can't hear, so everybody is talking at the top of their lungs, causing confusion...My Mom on the other hand is sharp as a tack, but is starting to do odd things...Sunday night, I just about got killed when I slipped on the stairs...if one of them had slipped, they would have been really hurt...it seems she had polished the stairs with furniture wax! As I said, odd...
The upshot is that they need help, even just having somebody around to make sure they don't do anything stupid, and somebody's got to do it...if your brother isn't helping your Dad, you are, and that's a great thing...your projects will wait for you...
My poor bike hasn't been ridden much this summer, and I even cancelled a ride a few weeks ago, and I may have to do the same with one next month that I've been planning for a year, but I'm also getting time with my parents that none of my other siblings will ever have...you won't regret it.

Sorry to hear about your current situation, Bill. You are in my prayers and I hope things will get better soon! As always I am looking forward to seeing you putting the final touches on your machines. Cheers Dan. Ps. The pic of the 550 came through this time and I have an identical tank waiting for my next project... Whenever that will happen... Ds.

Thank you ALL, you'll never know how much it all helps.
When my Mom was dying with brain cancer, I drove down to the hospital in Conway, Arkansas ( about 110-120miles, I think) and stay for 2 days (more to help Dad and make sure he ate regularly since he is a diabetic and Mom was like she was in a coma or something) and then drive back home and do the same thing 2 days later. I did this for about a month. Then, they had decided that nothing more could be done and they were going to move her to a nursing home in the small town where my they lived. I was coming back from Wal Mart, when my sister called to tell me that my Mom died while in the ambulance waiting to be moved to the nursing home. My Dad doesn't remember this and that may be a form of denial, since they were married over 55 yrs when she died. I'm concerned that he won't even remember that I was there for them as much as possible and now, I can't be there as much because of circumstances. I will be there as much as possible. As soon as Dad feels like going to church, I plan on going and taking him cause I don't think my brother has darkened the inside of a church in at least 30yrs. I wish he would conform but, I don't really see it happening. :-\

Oh man, there I go running my mouth, I didn't mean to unload like that. :-\ I know you all don't need a downer like that. Maybe you'll over look me, I've got quite a lot going on, as you are starting to see. I'll get on out of here and let you all get on with your stuff.

I agree with Bob...unload...we ALL need to do it...and the rest of us are more than happy to read/listen to someone who is going through a trying time. Wish we could do it over a beer/soda face to face rather than over the web but rest assured we are listening and feeling for you...

As for whether or not your dad will remember or whatever that you are here for him at this time...you and I both know that deep down inside he will...whether conciously or not. And, heck even if he doesn't that isn't why you are doing it anyways...all you can do is try to comfort him and be there for him in whatever capacity he needs...(deep down inside it will benefit you just as much if not more so than it does your dad!)

Hang in there and feel free to dump whenever you want or need to!!

        Bob,
Thank you for that and believe me I'm hanging as best I can.

        Dennis,
I know you all are there for me and that is what is so great about this place! And, just for the record, I'd be the one with a soda. ::) Not saying anything about beer drinkers, just don't do that, that's all.

I hope I didn't make it sound like I was wanting to make it sound like, "Look What I Did!" I just meant that I hoped that he'd remember that I cared enough to be there for him and Mom. You are right, I was doing it because of how I feel about them and because they are my parents.

Again, Thank You All for your concern. I have to go.

Not at all Bill...and I hope it didn't come across as critiquing in any way (meant more so as an affirmation to why deep down you are doing it)...and I won't hold the soda drinking against ya  ;)

Bill,

Regardless of whether he remembers or not, the Man upstairs knows and you know and those are two very important people.

Try not to think too much of the past and concentrate on the present.  Be there for him now and hopefully all will work out for the best.

        Dennis,
I got ya, I didn't want anyone to think that I was doing it for the wrong reasons. I'm not thinking too clearly sometimes, hope you'll forgive me.

        xtalon,
You've got that right, the Man upstairs knows how things really are and whose doing what and for what reason. I'm trying to concentrate on the present. Thing is, when ever I visit my Dad, I usually end up going back to the days of the Motorcycle Shop and, in my own way, try to stimulate his memory to try to keep his mind active in that area. I'm also doing my best to be there for him now, as much as I can. My brother and his latest wife are taking care of him presently. I can only imagine how I'm being referred to by my brother. If he has his way, I'll be lucky to be able to keep my last name! He has gone as far as to tell me that sometime back (when Mom was still alive) Mom & Dad said that David (my brother) should get everything at their place. I do not believe that, at all!

I gotta go, I feel like a mainspring that is fixin to come unwound.

        Chris,
I apologize for not responding sooner to your post. I can identify because my Dad is 81 (will be 82 the 16th of July) and my Mom passed on about 4 and a half years ago. You never think about the time coming that your parents' health starts to fail and their memory starts going away and suddenly, the time is here. My Prayers go out to YOU and YOUR family. I want to thank you for your reply to this. Take care.

Hey, Bill. Just read this thread.

The bikes can wait. Family can't. Been there, done that with my Dad (rip) so I feel for you.

You know, down in my heart, I've known for sometime that this forum is "THE BEST" there is and the support and concern, I've received from you all is another reason that it is SO GREAT! Every single reply, does so much and strengthens the bond that I already felt existed here! I can never Thank You All Enough!

         droopy,

I know what you are talking about, when spoke of loosing your family members. About 4 and a half years ago, I lost my Mom. My Sister helped my Dad and us get through that time. About 6months later, we lost Mary (a close friend of my ours, that was like a favorite Aunt). Shortly after that, we lost my Father-in-law (He was special!). Shortly after that, we lost my Grandmother (my last Grand Parent). About 6months later, we lost my Sister. My Dad and my brother are the last main ones left and my Dad will be 82 on the 16th of July.

I know that others have gone through, are going through and will go through and I hope I can be just as comforting to ALL those folks, as you all have been and are still being to me. :-\

Guys, If I might have just a minute of your time (oh, all right, maybe a FEW minutes then), I like to say "Thank You" to all those who offered encouragement, advice prayers and wished me well! ;) I'll tell you mainly what rocked me! When my Dad was taken by my brother to the hospital a bit back, my brother then informed me that my Dad was missing some money from his account and it had something to do with his CDs. Since My Dad and I were the only ones that should have been able to access those, Dad accused me (behind my back. Dad's 81) Nobody bothered to approach me! According to my brother, about all I had left would be our last name. Needless to say, I was totally stunned at what I was told and to be told this by my brother wasn't good either! The difference between my brother and me is like the difference between daylight and dark!
I have concern about other, care what people think and take care of my business. And plainly put, my brother doesn't! Alot of the advice that was offered, I already knew. I was just So stunned by the accusation, that I just couldn't think clearly and had trouble keeping my mind on what I was doing along with trouble sleeping. I knew this was a great place and the way you all rallied around me was far more touching than you will ever know. You all are the greatest! ;) I still have issues to take care of and get settled before I can get back to the projects though. Soon as I can, I'll get back on them and try to keep you all posted. Thanks again guys!

      Hey medic,
Well, Dad is slowly improving. He's been home about a week. He's on portable oxygen. He had double pneumonia and while in the hospital, they found that he also had emphysema and some heart disease. He's at home which is not far from where my brother lives (I live about 2 hrs away) My brother and his latest wife are taking care of him. I've been down a few times while he was in the hospital and I'm going down again some to see him and try to find out just where we stand. My circumstances keep me from going down frequently. I'm hoping to be able to get some things squared away so that I can more easily go down and spend more time with him. Thanks for asking.

                                        Later on, Bill :) ;)
