Carpy sells them, too. His prices run a bit high, though.

I've always wondered about those "plates"...are they issued by the British version of the DMV?? With the numbers/letters already inpressed/painted on, like here in the Colonies?? Or are the numbers/letters just issued to you and you paint them on??   ???

The Japanese/Honda never seemed to have gotten the size right on their license plate frames...always, the bolt spacing is wrong...and even the overall dimensions...I'm pretty sure it's been standardized here for at least 40 years...You'd think they'd have gotten it right by now...   ::)

Of course, it's the '70's bikes I'm working on now that are off...so I suppose a 10 year gap between the sizing was acceptable to Honda...   :P

here in the UK a vehicle registration number is issued to a vehicle, the number plate could then be made up by anyone using a variety of methods, but in recent years to prevent criminal activity they should be made by only reputable dealers after you give various items of proof of ownership, but you can still get them made up as show plates by other people in various sizes shapes and any font style. This is just a very simplistic description of what over the years has been a complicated system. I believe in the US you go to your state registration department and are issued with the next available plate which stays with you for life.

the praticular plates we like stick on front fender is the 1950's style plate, i didnt know that number is assigned to vehicle, your right north america, canada and states the number is assigned to driver and if we change vihicles we put plate on new vehicle if we no longer need plate for one reason or another we return it so number can be reused.

Depends on the state (colony  ;D).  The plate stays with the vehicle in California but a lot of states issue new plates when you buy a vehicle, new or used.  I still have the original plate (California, blue with yellow numbers) on my 75 750F.  I was going to register the bike in Washington but I wanted to keep the vintage plate.  I'm military so I can register my vehicles in my home state.

...a lot of states issue new plates when you buy a vehicle, new or used.

That is true for New York; new plate when registering. With next available number in the line...but you can get personalized plates, and also a variety of "motif" plates...cycle plates can be personalized, too, but I believe you lose a digit if you personalize...

I have two personalized auto plates, but for the bike I don't really care what it says...   ::)

Now that you've seen a few examples of them, make your own.  That would be the cheapest way to go.
And If you do get/make one, please put your real license #, don't state the obvious by having CB 750 or Cafe emblazoned on the sides.  just my opinion. ::)
