* 1974 CB360 PROJECT ABOUT TO START - WHAT SHOULD I DO ? *
« on: August 02, 2007, 01:02:09 PM »
I kinda fell into this project, as a friend of a friend had a CB for sale for a killer price, so I couldn't pass it up..

The bike is a 1974 Honda CB360 (pics coming soon). Besides the cracked triple-tree's (both top & bottom) and god awful seat (quite comfy) the scoot is in great shape. The tank has two small dents (one on each side of course) but I am gonna leave it for the time being.

I have two different ideas for the bike:
#1
The first ideas is to do a little bobber/bar hopper/date. I was thinking of going with some medium "ape" hanger bars, 21'' front wheel, 16'' rear wheel w/whitewall, 11'' short shocks (or weld-on hardtail), and a stock seat (for 2-up riding)..I just think it would be cool to have alittle ape'd/loud as hell CB to pick up the girlie (which ever one it might be at the time) and go grab some pizza or what not in the city..
#2
The 2nd idea is a wicked board tracker scoot. This would be a 21'' front/21'' rear wheeled bike, stupid loud (and funky) exhaust, custom solo seat, oldschool flat tracker style bars with friction tape for grips, number plaques, and everything else removed except for a 4'' headlight and two mini L.E.D tail lights.. This idea sounds much "cooler" than the one above I know, but I kinda have a #2 bike already (the CB450)..

So - what should I do ?

I say go with #1. Like you said, you already have the 450.

If you're going to do the ape hangers, go all the way and do the hard tail. No need to make it look too much like the 750, right?

Although going the board tracker look would definitely be unique...

I think you should bobber it.  Though I don't know if the 2 up stock seat would look right, especially if you lowered the back end a bunch.

I think I am gonna start tearing into it and see what I come up with.
As usual I have TONS of ideas, but not sure exactly what I wanna do.
The current CB450 is gonna be up for sale soon, and so will this one once I get it looking alittle better.
I wanna get a few year old Modern Classic Ducati and chop the hell outta it.
So that will be my "custom" and the monster can be my "cruiser"...

How about this?  This is a pair of bikes that were built by high school students for a "biker build off" kinda thing.  I saw them at Mid-Ohio Vintage days.  I was VERY impressed!

The more I think about it the more I lean towards doing a simple "date" bike.
Low bars - no gauges - flush mounted signals - and a stock seat so I can ride a dame on the back.
We shall see once I start tearing into it...
