Indicator/Horn switch
« on: April 09, 2008, 02:13:18 PM »
I took the indicator/horn switch apart when i changed my bars and now im feeling stupid that i cant remember how it goes back together, couple of little springs and a small ball bearing and a spring clip to name a few.

Does anyone have some pictures of inside the switch or a drawing?

I am going for memory now...I did my KO switch rebuild a couple months ago.  The largest of the 2 springs goes on the horn button shaft.  The small spring and BB bearing go in the white contact bar that slides with the blinker switch.  You will see a little hole on that white contact bar.  The small spring goes in that hole first then the BB bearing.

thanks for the reply. I got the switch together today and i seem to be missing something.

I have A spring and the BB in the back of the switch which makes it "click" when its in the middle/between possitions. But at the front of the switch where the little spring clip/contact is i think theres something missing as theres nothing between that and the contact board with the 3 wires coming off. I presume there must be something between to make it come in contact with two of the "nipples" on the board?

I have two springs left out of the switch, both small but different sizes. I have the big one on the horn button as that didnt fall out, im not sure how the horn part goes together either but im trying to get the flasher part together first.

OK...you got the spring and BB in the correct hole.  On mine there is a U shaped brass contact in the spot you have yours on the first picture.  I do not have that hole on the left side of the brass contact on your first picture.  Maybe look at your parts diagram and that should break it down for you.  I am working on the KO and not sure what bike you have there.

cheers johnie, Its a '74 500/4 (uk)

are there any parts diagrams on here as my manual doesnt cover the switches.

Is it the U shaped brass contact that touches the contact board? with the white plastic thing i took the picture of running in a channel it cant go any further forwards to make contact which is why i think theres something missing in order for it to touch.

Should be a spring behind the "U" shaped brass bit

Don't appologise I'm British too  ;D . Yes that looks like the combined button, press for horn, slide for headlight flash, that has 2 springs in it. I don't get home until the weekend I have an old switch I could maybe photograph for you then.

Is that a TD3 I see in the background?

edit;
Just looked again, maybe a TD2 but the external fork springs don't seem right.

Yes, the U shaped part touches the board with the aid of the spring pushing it out to make contact.  You are making progress for sure.  Good luck with it...

Oh shoot....I hate it when that happens.  I put a white towel on the floor when I was doing mine in case the BB or spings fell it would not roll or bounce far.  But I found I could have used 3 hands when putting that thing back together.  It went together better when I actually laid it upside down so gravity would hold stuff in there for me.

Ball bearings aren't difficult to get hold of, any cycle shop should help there. I can still get you a picture next week.
A TD1C even better, it looked like it had square barrels on the pic, I see the petrol tank shape now too.
