about engine paint. Maybe I'm too demanding, but I painted a nut just to make a test with VHT engine enamel universal aluminum. It scratches easily with a screwdriver, especially on not rough surfaces. Is something that happens to everybody or is just that I didn't prepare the piece in a  good way? It was sanded, cleaned in solvent and baked after painted. It matches the original grey color, but I hoped it would be more resistant to scratches. Does it exist a more resistant paint?

I've had excellent results with a product made by TMP .
It's called MET BLACK , part # ar8000 .
It's used in bodyshops around here , I've used it on a wide variety of places with nothing but great results .
I even painted an expansion chamber on a dirt bike with it . Didn't burn off , gave excellent scratch protection . :)

aside from the scratches witch happened during installation of the motor :-\

Does that treatment leave the surface as it was before just changing the color? I mean, does it change the rust into "new" aluminum or it etches the surface leaving a rough surface? If not done properly, does it etch the entire piece or if you leave it on a machined surface does it eat it? Thank you.

Grohidighast that is perfect, just what I was looking for. Any chance it's back in it's home? (with pics?)

Thanks all. Just the inspiration I needed.

Sorry not yet. It is an 836 rebuild and getting set to load into this chrome frame.  Watch this thread for the on-going build.

Aluminum does not rust. Yes it will remover corrosion from the surface but, it is not that harsh. It will change the surface to a slight gold color or they have the same product that will leave it clear. What it actually does is it chemically treats the surface of the aluminum to prevent corrosion and make a superior paint adhesion.  Just try it!!

The 550, blacked out... not like me on new-years either.

Cville, the bike looks great all blacked out. I thought of doing something similar on my CL350 project.

Any recent pics or progress with the bike? Also, what paint did you use?

Thanks!

Grohidighast, that is a great engine stand! I am assuming you made it? How does it mount to the engine stand?

Not sure. Came with the original project bike. It is quite a bit more heavy than after market ones I have had before. Also very rough, it would seem they were not cast in any modern kind of way.

The cover by the right shifter is the same type.
