menani seat and head steady
« on: June 28, 2007, 02:06:53 pm »
Finally found some time for some work before next race in two weeks.

The picture with race number 666 is with the Menani seat  i found at http://www.motocicliveloci.it/ in Milano for 30 $, much nicer than the white ugly thing I was racing with (number 681).

Also manged to finish the head steady project I had in my mind. wonder how its going to work on the track. Report will follow.

Cheers
TG

and that top torque brace kicks a$$!

thanks for the photos!

Interesting addition with the top engine mount, I'm curious too whether you're able to detect any frame "stiffening". Good work.

I just finished my own middle weight and am using external oil lines. Are you feeding from the right end of the oil gallery or did you access it from the front of the engine case?

hei Bwaller

I picked up the idea of the oil feed from the pics of the CB650 based AHRMA racer in the sohc4 gallery.

The only thing that didnt made any sense to me was drilling and tapping into the cases as in that bike.

As the bottom oil gallery essentially connects to the main one and is very large, I couldn't see any problems in tapping into the right end of it, bellow the points cover. I did had to create a special fitting that has the same thread as the plug and a 10mm thread for a normal banjo bolt. Got to say that the banjo is a bit exposed in case of a crash, I am planning to add a  little protection plate there.

Custom fittings had to be made for the head too. turned adaptors that had a 12 mm external thread and a fine 8 mm internal and used 8 mm banjos from a GSXR oil feed. all the pipes are also from a 1992 WP GSXR 750, the splitter is a from a front brake dual disc setup.

cheers
TG

         Hey TG,

Nice job there. That seat is looking good and I'd like to see
more on that head brace myself. ;) 8)  Lots of luck with your next
     run! ;)

Hey Turbo,
I'm using the end of the main galley for top end supply as well and you're right it could suffer serious damage in a right side get off. Best to protect that fitting for sure.

TG, will be interesting to hear about how the head steady works - I started making one for my 460 a while back & that might encourage me to finish it off. Meanwhile, your external oil supply- what did you do about including the little supply restrictors that the 550 usually has in the oilway at base gasket level?

cheers

hi tim
good question indeed..... forgot to add that i threaded the end of the banjo bolt for the oil feed and fitted a carb jet with a hole equal to the size of the two restrictros together.

cheers

Hey, that's an excellent way of doing it, thanks for the info. Any news on the head steady's performance yet?
