Rickman 550 - need advice quick
« on: July 01, 2007, 03:59:33 AM »
I've spotted this 550 with Rickman fairing, the guy's sellin it quick. I'm thinking of making him an offer, what seems a sensible price for it?
I already have a 550, so i don't want to pay top dollar. The bidding is now at 400 Euro's (only two bids). The bike is running and in ok condition, not a showbike but the chrome is good.
Besides the Rickman fairing, i've already spotted that it has double diskbrakes. Perhaps there are more mods on this bike than just the fairing?

thats one nice bike!!

Not sure what US$ equivaletes into for Euros...

But if it runs as good as it looks, If I were in the market for another bike(and had the cash), I'd go as far as 1000-1500 for it.

Thats IF it all is in good condition.
If it has a appropriate miles for it's age.
But if it was a racer.... it may have more goodies in the motor as well.
You might want to find out if the carbs, cam, and pistons are stock from the owner.

Is it close enough to get a in person view of the bike?
It would be well worth it if you are serious about buying it.

Is that a Marlboro sticker on that fairing??
My guess, is that it may very well have been a racer if so.
Only racers, and diehard smokers would even think of putting that on their bike.

I was thinking the same, but the guy doesn't know anything about the history of the bike.
Somehow I have a feeling this is not a normal 550. The fairing, exhausts, dual disks...
I'm not sure what those exhausts/mufflers are either, i've never seen a pair like those on a cb. They look more like somethin on a two-stroke.
It's not really close enough to drive there, and I have to work the rest of the week. I'll probably have to buy it unseen, or not buy it.

In U.S. currency thats only around 550$, right??? :o If so I would think thats a damn good price. I really doubt that the engine is stock.

If you don't buy it...well I certainly cant cause of all that water.

I'd guess "no" on the racebike question based on the fact that it has carefully mounted turnsignal and mirrors (though those could have been added later I suppose). However it sure looks like someone took their time putting it together...lots of little details that I don't recall usually seeing on racebikes. Maybe a nicely done late '70s/early '80s cafe project?

Hell, at that price I'd buy it if for no other reason than to satisfy my curiosity. Imagine how you'll feel if you don't buy it...will you be able to live with yourself?  ;D
