try finding an original 1975/6 750f left hand side cover in good condition - they are getting pretty pricey when they come up on ebay...

They were bloody expensive when new, some prick stole the sidecovers off my shiny new CB750F1 in 1978 (I bought it as a discontinued model) and two bare sidecovers with no badges cost 128 bucks, and the badges were 12 bucks each. In 1978, that was more than a weeks pay for me..............  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I just bought 2 repro pop from a guy on ebay.  They're ABS injection molded and look damn good.  Cost me $150 total and they're not brittle 30yr old plastic.  Why buy old when you can buy new?

The short answer to your question: YES, D*MNIT, THEY ARE.   >:(

Seems to be some good repros out there that will be sturdier and outlast the originals.

I bought a repro cover from David Silver spares for my F2 resto back in 05, it looked great, nice thick black ABS plastic, trouble is, it fell off on my second outing. I never recovered itm, or the new OEM badge I'd fitted to it.

I was always worried that the push in tabs seemed a bit loose in the new OEM rubber mounting donuts, but I forgot about it on the day. Luckily for me, one of the guys here sent me a very nice used OEM cover, and the tabs were a lot tighter fit than the repro item.

I'd certainly be tempted to buy another DSS cover, but I'd safety wire it to the bike, just in case. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I just thought about it also a while ago. My idea was to make some tiny crossholes on the slugs, so I can put a split pin through them -without bending it-. So anytime I needed to remove the sidecover I just had to remove the pin, and if somebody wanted to steal it without noticing the pins he would break the cover -after all, it wouldn't make any difference to me to have a broken sidecover or none at all -well, if he leaves the badges behind at least that's much better- But at the end, I never use my CB750 for commuting, just for rides, and it is never out of sight for longer than a coffee stop. Furthermore, as there are not many CB's around most of the people can't tell it from a modern bike, and the few ones that know the "Mighty Four" and have stopped me to compliment about my bike -the last one a guy dressed on a suit at a gas station-, don't have any so don't need to steal them.

Over here seems that the number or cars is bigger than the number of aerials. If yours gets stolen, you just wait to find an empty street to get another one from a parked car. At the end, you will be stolen yours in some time, or you will have to unscrew it everytime you park. Can you imagine a city where there is a shortage of only one aerial? Like in the semiconductors theory, the "hole" would be moving and everybody would have the aerial stolen at least once, creating a feeling of too many burglars. If the one without aereal -antenna- just buy another one there would be no steals.

The same goes to sidecovers. If I need one and steal it from somebody, not only will I piss somebody off, but probably I will be stolen mine in a near future. Even if they are expensive, it is only money. I'm not a saint, but I don't see the point of stealing things that are really not necessary -much less a sidecover, that no bike needs for working-. My Sanglas is missing one of the sidecovers and I ride it normally, just patiently waiting for one to pop up. And why is it missing? The man who sold it to me told me he was stolen the sidecover.... maybe some day the guy who stole it will put his bike for sale as a parts bike and I will get the very same sidecover....

ok I didnt know, I hadnt seen any that expensive on E-bay before that werent K0's "sandcast  :D

I'd understand for NOS or reproductions or even a mint condition origional, but scraped up and damaged?

mine are still in one piece, (except one corner of one, but 1/4 aint bad) but 3 of them have the horizontal cracks, I think I'm going to do the fiberglass or plastic putty to fix them, seems a lot cheaper,  however if I had none at all I'd probably spend a few dollars to get one

as for the finished look, I'm not going for looks right now I'm trying for function over form,

after we have a perfectly running machine then we make it look great

Unless you're a puritan, just get repops for 26 bucks each.  CRC, JC Whitney, and Dennis Kirk have 'em. ;D

That's what I would do if I'd need them. After all, I don't think Honda itself made the original sidecovers. It all comes down to whether you want the bike to win an originality contest or to be ridden.

Do they make repros for the K series? Are they an exact match?

Not exact, exactly ;)  See pic of my left sidecover (it's a Maier) fits okay but did not match up with the lines on the airbox so didn't fit right, I heated it slightly with a propane torch after tightening the screws and it took the shape it needed to to fit.  The right one was okay, but required trimming at the top near the seat in order to fit and allow the seat to open properly.  Mine have not been painted, they're molded in black ABS.  I think some of them are molded in white.  Overall, seems to be a good quality piece that will hold up very well.  Mine is a 750 K6.  Check out http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/Index_Main_Frame.htm  click "Body Parts" and then you'll see "side covers" on the bottom of the next menu.

I would recommend a set in the Dennis Kirk style. The price is right, as of 2 years ago, and the plastic is sturdy enough to handle whatever body work you might want to do. The plastic is black abs, the anchors are set up like a hollow wall anchor instead of flimsy plastic tabs to insert, and the holes are undrilled to allow a little bit of preadjustment. The ones I have from DK have the original scoop that flows up to the stock airbox, which next time I paint them Ill shave the xtra plastic off to show a little more color of the frame.

those are pretty much the same as mine, but my K6 is a dry sump so the right cover goes over the oil tank.

Already have Maier side covers and the hole is molded into them, was just noting that the other covers mentioned might be same brand or similar molds.

Ha, I was watching that same auction, but it was too much for me.  Somebody stole my right side cover off my bike the first month I got it.  I was pissed, but thankfully it doesn't look too bad without it.  Right now I'd rather spend the money on something else for my bike.

Man,

I need a left side cover for my 750F2.  Last one I saw on Ebay went for almost $70 plus $15 in shipping.

My wiring is nekked!

I guess I'll just have to go the DSS way.

Does anybody know if Maier, or any other manufacturer, makes some that will fit a '78 750F?
I really need the left one!

Does anyone run with these side covers from http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com They are the screw in type. Are they crap?

I would have posted a hard link to the side covers page, but the site uses frames. If you go to the page and search for Body Parts then Side Covers you'll find these.

Update: I just went back and read some comments on these in previous posts on this thread. So how exactly do these screw in?
