Topic: fork question

In Part Fish they call them "fork Covers". They are the 2 chrome pieces that hold the headlight bucket and turn signals. They apprear to just slide over the forks. Is this true?

and for the real Q. Do I need them? do they serve a purpose on the forks other than hold the headlight bucket? Like be a spacer in the triple clamp or some other type of safety or stabliazation issue?

Yes they do slip over the forks. They are also how the turn signals are stock mounted.

There are other replacements if you can't find what you need right away. I used them and am quite happy with them.
If installed, you will need to come up with a new stem mount signal with a thread on the end to attach to new bracket hole.

hi, fellas i use those headlight brackets on both my 750 f1's ,easy to use and no problems  mick.

I am planning on removing mine. I dont want them on my bike.

I plan on going to a 2 headlight system. 2 smaller ones. Holt them on with fork clamps or something.

I just need to figure out where to hide all the wireing thats in the headlight bucket.
Maybe under the tank.

Where can you buy a set of thsoe? They look real nice and I'm having a hell of a time finding a replacement for my bent one.

Cast aluminium, and a bit costly. I just didn't like the other types.

I used the turnsignal stud to mount the headlight--might require some hole enlargment.  See picture above.  I've also seen holes drilled through the bracket for turn signals.  (As always measure once--drill twice, er....)

Have a friend with a Bomber who mounted the turnsignals on the end of the handlebars.  Have pix at home if you're interested.

Be very, very careful with what brackets you buy for your F2/F3 mate, your bike has an unusually large headlight bucket compared to the K's and F's, and the shorter headlight brackets (both OEM and After Market) are way short.

My first F2 had a fairing at one stage before I bought it, and someone had removed the OEM F2 brackets. so when I got it, it had some poxy aftermarket crap brackets with extensions bolted to them. At this stage Ebay was in it's infancy, so there wasn't that much bike stuff, anyway, I first tried CB750K8 brackets, but they were too short, so I then tried GL1000, no good either. I never did find an original set, and I sold that bike a couple of years later with the same crappy set up.

If you're desperate, I have a spare of F2brackets in my garage, they're not great, but better than nothing. I bought them on Ebay for my F2 resto, but then found some mint items. Let me know if you still need them and I'll send you a pic. Cheers, Terry.
